Summer Extension ProgramThe purpose of the university summer extensionprogram is to provide the field laboratory workrequired of every student in the Seminary and<strong>Graduate</strong> School of Religion who expects to reenrollin <strong>Bob</strong> <strong>Jones</strong> <strong>University</strong> for the following fall session.BJU offers the field laboratory courses for undergraduateand graduate students. These courses aredescribed in detail under the Division of ChurchMinistries.For the satisfactory completion of one of these, astudent receives two semester hours of credit. The tuitionfor these courses is listed under “Summer SchoolExpenses.”Registration and Advisory SystemOne to three days are set aside at the beginning ofeach semester for registration. During this time, eachstudent is supplied with complete information regardingthe class schedule and his own previous academicrecord. Each student is assigned to a faculty advisorwho assists him in making out his program of study.During the school year, a student may consult his facultyadvisor, his dean or any member of the registrar’soffice staff at any time concerning his course of studyand his future academic plans. While everything possibleis done to help the student plan his program correctly,the final responsibility for taking the courseswhich will fulfill the graduation requirements restsupon the student.Student LoadA normal full-time graduate student load is 10–15hours a semester. The minimum full-time load forresidence hall students is 10 hours; the maximum loadis 16 hours.No course which has been completed with a gradeof C or above may be repeated except as an audit.Permission to audit requires the approval of the registraror the dean of the school involved. Any courserepeated without this permission will be consideredan audit, for which no grade will be given, althoughthe course will count on the student’s load.Classification of StudentsAcademic classification is granted to all universitystudents according to the following standards:<strong>Graduate</strong>: Possession of a baccalaureate degreefrom an approved college or university and admissionto a program of study leading to an advanced degree.Postgraduate Special: Possession of a baccalaureatedegree from an approved college or university butadmitted as a special student, not taking a program ofstudy leading to an advanced degree. Students in thisclassification are limited to undergraduate courses.Academic InformationCourse CreditCredit is given in semester hours, each semesterhour representing 16 hours of class work or a minimumof 32 hours of laboratory work. Therefore, aclass which meets for class work three hours a weekfor a semester will ordinarily give three semester hoursof credit. A class which meets for classwork threehours a week and for laboratory work a minimum oftwo hours a week will give four semester hours ofcredit.Grading SystemThe following Grading System is used by allschools of BJU.A ExcellentB GoodC PassingD UnsatisfactoryF FailureI IncompleteW Withdrawn from courseWF Withdrawn failureAU AuditNR Not reportedP PassedCR CreditNo grade below C is acceptable for graduate credit,and the student must maintain an average of B in allgraduate programs except for the Master of Divinitydegree.Official standards of achievement for the variousuniversity courses are assigned by each of the divisionsand departments of BJU.Permits for late examinations may be acquired atthe Records Office.Grade ReportsStudents are given an opportunity to evaluatetheir progress at approximately the midpoint of thesemester. Midterm progress will be sent via e-mail.Formal grade reports are issued once each academicperiod (i.e., at the end of each semester). Onlyone grade report is issued per student. Any questionsconcerning the accuracy of a grade report should besubmitted to the teacher within 30 days of the reportissued.Students who made an incomplete (“I”) duringfirst semester are required to make up or completetheir work by the following March 1; winter minisessiondeadline is the following May 1. Students whomake an I during second semester or summer schoolare required to make up or complete their work by thefollowing November 1. If the work is not completedby the required deadline, the I will be changed to F.29
