Through You VIP – Audio, VideoHello VIP and welcome to this month’s lesson. Now, this lesson is called ‘Through You’or ‘Through You Consciousness’. It’s an interesting idea and, as always, I’ll explain whatI mean by this.Let’s start with the idea that there are three basic levels of consciousness. At least forour purpose today, we’re going to describe three levels of consciousness. Now,“consciousness” means awareness, thinking, things like that. So kind of three very, verybig general ways of thinking, ways of being aware, ways of believing about life. So let’sdescribe them.Level number one we’ll call ‘to you’ consciousness, to, t-o, you consciousness. Leveltwo we’re going to call ‘by you’, b-y, ‘by you’ consciousness and then level three we’llcall ‘through you’ consciousness. So let’s describe what these are.‘To you’ – ‘To you’ consciousness means this, it means, generally speaking, in life youhave the feeling or the idea or the belief that life is happening to you. Life is somethingthat happens to you. External events happen to you. Good luck or bad luck happens toyou. Events happen to you. Now, as you can see with this basic mentality, it’s very much a passive or even a victimmentality because it implies – it suggests – that you are not in control; that you’re notthe one determining your life that it’s external events. You can label that as the Universeor a God or chance or whatever you want to call it, but it’s something external that’shappening to you.Even though most people don’t think of it this way, in fact, a lot of people, I’d say mostpeople, in fact, do have this level of belief or this basic level of consciousness, generally. Now, we all may have parts of our life where we feel more empowered, but I’dsay most people most of the time feel like life is something that happens to them.Something bad happens and then they think oh, something bad is happening to me,right? I’m kind of a victim of this bad thing. You can see that that creates in your mind, even if it’s unconsciously, a feeling of being passive or powerless or at least notempowered; having less power. So that’s ‘to you’ consciousness. Now, the next level we’ll call ‘by you’ consciousness. In ‘by you’ consciousness, youhave the feeling, the general belief, the general idea, that life is being created by you.You are creating your own life and you are determining your goals and then you’re goingand getting them and achieving them.www.EffortlessEnglishClub.com

You are envisioning what you want in your life and then you’re making it happen throughyour focus, through your actions, through your ideas, your beliefs, your communication, all of these things that we talk about a lot in the VIP Program. So a ‘by you’ consciousness, meaning that life is being created by you, it’s a very activeapproach, right? It’s proactive. It means I’m the one causing things to happen and, yes, challenges may occur in the external world and difficult things may come up, of course, but in general I choose what happens and I choose my response to those thingsbecause anything bad that happens you are still in control of how you respond to it.You can choose to get depressed and feel powerless, which is what a lot of people do.You can choose to blame and kind of point the finger and ah, you know, this person orthis situation is bad and that’s why and, again, you’re giving your power away to them.Or, you can decide okay, this is not the situation I want, but I’m going to createsomething different. I’m the one who determines my life, who creates my life. My life iscreated by me and I determine my own responses to it and I’m proactive. That’s a verypowerful level of consciousness and I’d say most of the VIP members have this level ofconsciousness. For a good part of my, especially recently, I’ve had that kind of level of consciousness, but there’s an even higher level. The higher level is called ‘through you’ consciousnessand ‘through you’ consciousness is the idea that some greater purpose or energy orpower or whatever you want to call it is actually operating through you. That you arepart of something much bigger, that your life is not just about you personally, but yourlife is about creating something positive or contributing something positive out there inthe world and that some kind of positive force is moving through you and guiding youand helping you. Now, if you have a particular religion then you might think it’s your particular God orsaint or something is doing that. If you don’t it might be more of a feeling of the life forceor the collective unconscious, meaning the collective sort of minds of all of humanity. There’s lots of ways to think about it, but the general idea is that you’re connected tosomething bigger, that you’re a part of something bigger and that that larger thing, thatlarger mission, that larger purpose, that larger energy, is working through you andsupporting you and guiding you at all times. And, as you might guess, that’s a superpowerful belief. So let’s talk about that one. That’s the focus of our lesson this month, ‘Through YouConsciousness’. So, again, it’s the idea that there’s some kind of life force or a greaterenergy or something that is moving through you and guiding you and helping you. Now,of course, this only happens if you believe it and if you act accordingly. So if you’restuck in ‘to you’ consciousness, you’re blaming the external environment and you’reconstantly complaining and you’re thinking like a victim then you’re not going to getwww.EffortlessEnglishClub.com

much energy or creativity or inspiration or guidance or help from this kind of greaterenergy or power, whatever you want to call it. Its not gonna happen. You have tochange your beliefs first. You know there’s this very common cliché, it’s a common phrase, God helps those whohelp themselves. It’s kind of that idea. If you don’t start helping yourself first, if you don’tstart doing what you need to do, what you know is right, if you don’t change your beliefsand the way you think and your level of consciousness then there’s no way that you canget any kind of inspiration from something greater. It doesn’t have to be a religious idea, there’s plenty of inspiration. If you read enoughabout cutting edge physics, for example, you’ll find all the inspiration you need in termsof everything being connected and there being these kind of universal sources ofenergy. So it doesn’t matter if you think of it as God or Buddha or Tao or the Universe orthe life force, whatever, it doesn’t matter, you choose, but it’s an important idea and it’s apowerful idea and a powerful way of thinking; a powerful perspective, a powerful corebelief. So how would this work? Well, you know you kind of train yourself to do this and to thinkin this way and here’s what you do. Anytime you have something difficult or painful, achallenge that happens in your life -- and we always do -- you have a choice of whichlevel of consciousness you’re going to focus on or use in this situation. So let’s saysomething bad happens. You lose your job. Now, you can choose ‘to you’consciousness, which means you’d say oh, I’m a victim. Oh, I was a good employeeand look what they did to me.You can be complaining, complaining about your boss and the company and then youcould start just feeling depressed, every day getting depressed or you could focus onyourself and maybe all the bad things you did or your own failure and oh, I didn’t dowhat I should have done. Oh, I’m not good and oh, my God, this is terrible. I have suchbad luck. That’s ‘to you’ consciousness and, of course, you’re just going to feel weakerand weaker. It’s not going to help you. Now, the next level of consciousness you could focus on, which is preferable, better, more empowering to you, would be ‘by you’. You could say okay, this happened. It wasbad. I didn’t want it to happen, but I create my future. I create my life. It’s being createdby me. So you could make a list of goals about how you’re going to get your next job orstart your own company or whatever it is you want and then you could determineexactly how you’re gonna do that and you could get yourself very motivated. You couldwake up every day and focus on that goal with a lot of intensity and emotion and takeactions and go out and get another job. That’s a good thing to do.www.EffortlessEnglishClub.com

Now, if you want to really get some power, however, you could focus on ‘through you’consciousness. At that level what you do is when you have a problem or somethingterrible happens, the first thing you believe, you decide to believe, you choose it, youdecide that this is happening for a reason. I am being guided to learn something. I ambeing guided to grow in some way. I am being guided to make an important change, achange that’s important both for me personally and for my mission and for my purposeand for the people in my life. That is super powerful when you think in that way, becausethen you start seeing everything as an inspiration, even difficult things. So in our example you lose your job, I describe with ‘by you’ you get really motivated, but in ‘through you’ you would think okay, how I’m being guided. What is the deeperreason I lost my job. How am I being guided? What am I being guided towards? Maybe, for example, you would decide you know I always wanted to start my own company andI never had the courage. I never did it. I am being guided to do it now, right? Thishappened for a reason. I need to start my own company so I can have a better life formyself and my family and my customers and I can serve more people. This ishappening for a good reason. Even though it’s difficult for me now, I’m being guidedtowards a bigger, more important, more positive purpose.Or maybe the purpose wouldn’t be to start your own company. Maybe though you couldchoose to believe that you’re being guided to have a more inspiring job and that this isan opportunity to grow, to maybe change careers. Maybe you’ve thought about that.Maybe you were tired of your old career, but it was safe. It was comfortable and so youstayed in it, but now you’re being guided to do something bigger, something that willgive you more happiness and other people more happiness or maybe stay in the samecareer, but just get a better company, a better job, a better position. You see how this works, though, is instead of seeing this difficult thing that happened ina negative way, you start looking for the deeper positive reasons or purposes. You’relooking for inspiration and you have a deep strong belief that this happened for apositive reason. I am being guided in some way by some power greater than me. Superpowerful. And, of course, when good things happen, when you have good opportunities, whenwonderful things happen, you think in the same way. You’re like I’m being guided. Thisis an opportunity for me to not just help myself, but to grow and to help and contribute toother people. So you start seeing good things in that way also, that you’re being guided, you’re getting inspiration for something bigger than yourself – a purpose. So, what are the core beliefs that you need to have to experience this consciousness, this attitude toward life? Well, number one -- I just gave it to you -- you need to believethat everything happens for a reason. Everything happens for a reason. If you read thestory of your heroes, your role models, great people that we admire, almost all of themwww.EffortlessEnglishClub.com

guided and what are you being guided towards? Then get on our social site and shareyour ideas. All right, that’s it. You are being guided. You do have a purpose. You just have to changethe way you think and as you do you’ll start to notice these things happening more andmore. It feels like a mystery. It feels like magic, but I promise you it’s real, but you haveto change your own thinking to experience it.All right, well that’s it. I will see you again next time, bye-bye.www.EffortlessEnglishClub.com

Through You VIP – Mini StoryHello VIPs and welcome to the mini story this month. Let’s get started.* * * * *Stu is the most boring speaker in the world. When he speaks he stands stifflybehind a podium and reads his notes. His voice is flat with no emotion. What does he stand behind? He stands behind a podium. How does he stand behind a podium? He stands stiffly behind a podium, so not relaxed, stiffly. He stands stiffly behind apodium. And who stands stiffly behind a podium?Stu. Stu stands stiffly behind a podium every time he speaks and he just reads hisnotes. What is his voice like when he speaks? His voice is very flat.Is his voice full of emotion or is his voice very flat? His voice is very flat. It has no emotion. When he speaks he stands stiffly behind apodium and reads his notes. His voice is flat with no emotion.Every time he speaks to an audience they fall asleep within three minutes. So how soon do they fall asleep after he begins?Within three minutes. Within three minutes the audience always falls asleep.Who falls asleep? The audience. The audience always falls asleep. And how soon do they fall asleep?www.EffortlessEnglishClub.com

Well, within three minutes of the beginning of his speech they always fall asleep. And why do they always fall asleep?Because he’s so boring. Because his voice is flat with no emotion. In fact, one time Stu spoke to 200 people at an engineering conference. How many people did he speak to at an engineering conference? Two hundred. And who spoke to 200 people at an engineering conference?Stu. Stu spoke to 200 people at an engineering conference. What did he do at an engineering conference? He spoke to 200 people and within 10 minutes everyone was snoring.Within 10 minutes what were they doing? They were snoring. Within 10 minutes of the start of his speech everyone was snoring.Of course, snoring is the sound some people make when they sleep. It sounds like this[snoring]. That’s snoring. So, was Stu snoring at the engineering conference? No, no, no, no, Stu was not snoring at the engineering conference.Who was snoring at the engineering conference? The audience. The audience was snoring at the engineering conference. And why were they snoring at the engineering conference?Because Stu was such a boring speaker. So, within 10 minute of him beginning hisspeech everyone in the audience was snoring [snoring].www.EffortlessEnglishClub.com

Well, obviously, Stu’s boss was not happy about this. And his boss talks to himone day and he says “Stu, you must take a speaking class. You must learn publicspeaking.”So his boss says what to him?His boss says “You must take a speaking class.”Who said that to Stu?His boss. His boss told him that he must take a speaking class. His boss says “Youmust take a speaking class.” You must learn to speak well. Now you’ll notice that I’m mixing the present and the past. Don’t panic, perfectly natural. When we tell stories in English, we can and often do mix the verb tenses. See, when I’mtelling the story I say “the boss says you must take a speaking class.” I want you toimagine that it’s kind of happening now, like you’re there at the moment it’s happening. But then when I ask you a question, I said “what did the boss say”, well that’s in thepast, because now I’m asking you about the story, right? It’s as if I’ve already told youthat information and now I’m asking you and I’m saying it in the past because I’vealready told you that information. You don’t need to think about that. Don’t analyze it,just accept it. It’s okay. It’s natural. Don’t panic. Okay, let’s continue. So the boss finally says “You must take a speaking class.” And so Stu joins theDale Carnegie Speech Course.Which course does Stu join?He joins the Dale Carnegie Speech Course; the Dale Carnegie Company. What course does he join? The Dale Carnegie Course. The Dale Carnegie Speech Course. Now, when he joins the class he’s quite surprised because they say never readnotes and they tell him never stand behind a podium, ooh. Stu is quite surprisedbecause he always reads notes and he always stands behind a podium. So Stu isquite surprised, but he decides to follow their directions.Number one, they tell him what?Never, never read notes. First they say never read notes to the audience.www.EffortlessEnglishClub.com

And, number two, what do they say, never stand behind…? That’s right, number two.Never stand behind a podium. Never stand behind a podium. So Stu learns these two rules and he practices in the course. In the course helearns to speak conversationally. He learns to move energetically. He learns tospeak enthusiastically. So does he learn to speak formally in the course? No, no, no, no, not formally, not stiffly. He learns to speak conversationally; in a relaxednatural way.So how does he learn to speak first?Conversationally. He learns to speak to the audience conversationally, as if he’s havinga natural relaxed conversation with the audience. And how does he learn to move?Energetically. He learns to move energetically.Does he learn to stand stiffly and formally? No, no, no, he does not learn to stand stiffly and formally. He learns to move naturallyand energetically when speaking to an audience. And, finally, emotion, how does he learn to speak? Does he learn to speak in a boringway, in a flat way?No, no, no, he learns to speak enthusiastically. He learns to speak very enthusiasticallywhen talking to an audience. And so he goes to the class every week, every week, every week, practices, practices, practices and then, finally, at his next conference the audience isenthralled. They are enthralled by him and his speech. Now, in this situation, “enthralled” means fascinated by, right? It means they are totallyfocused on him. They’re amazed and fascinated by him; very, very, very, very, veryinterested in everything he says.So the audience is totally enthralled with his speech. That’s a good thing. Theylisten eagerly to every word.www.EffortlessEnglishClub.com

How do they listen to his speech? They listen eagerly to his speech.Do they listen passively to his speech? No, no, no, no, no, they don’t listen passively to his speech. They listen eagerly to hisspeech and they watch him intently.Do they watch him with just a little bit of focus and concentration? No, no, no. No, they don’t.How do they watch him?Intently. They watch him intently. That means with total focus and concentration. It means they’re watching him at everymoment, every single thing he does very intently. They put all of their intention andattention on him.So who watches Stu intently? The audience at his next conference. The audience at his next conference watch himvery intently. And how do they listen to him? They listen to him very eagerly. Eagerly; excited to hear what he will say next. And how do they feel about the speech and about him? They are enthralled. Totally enthralled; super interested in everything he says. They areenthralled by him. They listen to him eagerly and they watch him very, very intently. Finally, at the end of his speech, the audience cheers him loudly. Yeah! Woo! Theygo crazy. Everyone is shouting and screaming. They’re really excited about hisspeech. How do they cheer him?Loudly. They cheer him loudly. They cheer for him loudly.www.EffortlessEnglishClub.com

Who do they cheer for? Who or whom do they cheer for? They cheer for Stu.And who cheers for Stu?The audience at his last speech, his last conference. And how do they cheer for him? They cheer for him loudly, very, very loudly.Of course, Stu is very, very happy about this and his boss is also super happyabout his new speaking skills. In fact, he’s so happy that he gives Stu a bigpromotion and decides to make him a full-time speaker.* * * * *And that is the end of our mini story.Okay, I will see you again. Have a great day, bye-bye.www.EffortlessEnglishClub.com

Through You VIP – POVHello this is AJ and welcome VIP to the point-of-view stories. Let’s get started. Now, inthe normal mini story I played around and switched around some of the verb tenses alittle bit. So I was mostly using the present, but then I mixed in the past at a few points. That is fine. It’s normal. It’s okay.So when people are speaking naturally and conversationally that’s going to happen andit happens a lot. There are not these very tough strict rules about it. So people might betelling a story in the present then they might ask a question in the past and then theymight go back to the present again. Then they might a question in the present tense. It’sperfectly normal and natural. The rules of strict academic writing do not apply to naturalspeech. So just relax about all that stuff and just listen to the stories. That’s all you need to do isget used to all these different verb tenses and the vocabulary and the pronunciation.Just let it go into your mind and don’t analyze it. Don’t think about it too much, just hearit again and again and again each day. Okay, let’s get started. Now, we will tell this onegoing back as if it happened a long time ago in the past.* * * * *A long time ago there was a guy. His name was Stu and he was the most boringspeaker in the world. When he spoke he always stood stiffly behind a podium and healways just read his notes. His voice was flat with no emotion. The audience always fellasleep within three minutes of him starting his speech. Well, one time he spoke to 200people at an engineering conference and within 10 minutes the entire audience wassnoring [snoring] because he was so boring.Well, Stu’s boss didn’t like this and his boss finally said “You must take a speakingclass.” And so Stu joined the Dale Carnegie Speech Course. At the course they taughthim several surprising things. They taught him to never read notes. They taught him tonever stand behind a podium. Instead, Stu learned to speak conversationally, to moveenergetically and to speak enthusiastically with emotion. He practiced and practiced and practiced and at his next conference the audience wasenthralled. They listened eagerly to everything he said. They watched him intently andat the end they cheered for him loudly.* * * * *And that’s the end of our first version. Version number two…* * * * *www.EffortlessEnglishClub.com

Ever since he started his career Stu has been extremely boring. In fact, he has been themost boring speaker in the world. Since beginning his career he has always boredaudiences. Every time he has spoken he has stood stiffly behind a podium and just readhis notes. During that entire time, since he started his career, his voice has been flatwith no emotion every time he spoke.Since he started his career the audience has always fallen asleep within three minutesof the beginning of his speeches. In fact, one time he spoke to 200 people at anengineering conference and within 10 minutes everyone was snoring [snoring]. Well, one day his boss finally said to him “You must take a speaking class. You must learn tobe a better speaker.” And so he enrolled in – he joined – the Dale Carnegie SpeechCourse. They told him to never read notes to the audience and they told him to never standbehind a podium. Instead, Stu learned to speak conversationally, move energeticallyand speak enthusiastically. He practiced and he practiced and he practiced and hepracticed and at his next conference the audience was enthralled. They listened to himeagerly. They watched him intently and at the end they cheered him loudly.* * * * *And that’s the end of our second version. Let’s to go the third version, which is from afuture timeframe. Here we go.* * * * *In the future, some day, there will be a man named Stu. He’s going to be the mostboring speaker in the world. In fact, whenever he speaks he’ll just stand stiffly behind apodium and he’ll always just read his notes. His voice is gonna be flat with no emotion.Of course, “gonna” means going to; future. The audience will always fall asleep within three minutes of him starting his speech. Infact, one time in the future he’s gonna speak to 200 people at an engineeringconference, in the future, and within 10 minutes the entire audience will be snoring[snoring].Well, his boss is finally gonna say “Stu, you must take a speaking class.” And so Stu willenroll in the Dale Carnegie Speech Course and they’ll tell him some surprising things. They’ll tell him to never read notes to an audience. They’ll tell him to never stand behinda podium. Instead, he’ll learn to speak conversationally, to move energetically and tospeak enthusiastically.www.EffortlessEnglishClub.com

He’ll become a much better speaker. In fact, at his next conference the audience isgonna be enthralled. They’ll listen to him eagerly. They’ll watch him intently and at theend they’ll cheer him loudly.* * * * *And that is the end of our point-of-view stories.* * * * *So, again just listen to these stories and, please, become comfortable with the idea ofmoving between different timeframes. You see, what tense you choose, what timeframeyou choose when you speak or when another speaker is speaking to you, there’s nosolid rule about it.As you can see, I can tell this story as if we’re looking at it in the past. It’s in the pastand we’re looking back at it or as if it started kind of in the past and it’s continued up to amore recent time or as if we’re imagining it happening in the future or as if we’re thereright at the same time it’s happening. We can choose any of those timeframes andothers to tell the story. In fact, it doesn’t matter when the story actually happened. I mean maybe the story didactually happen in the past, but we can still use the present to tell the story because itgives a feeling of immediacy. It gives a more spontaneous feeling, as if we’re there asit’s happening now. So it’s okay.Just listen to the stories and get comfortable with these different points of view. Theseare the most common ones, the stories I always tell month after month after month. I’mrepeating a lot of the same ones because they’re the most common, the ones you’regoing to hear constantly every day and therefore the most useful. All right, enjoy them. Listen to them every day. See you again, bye-bye.www.EffortlessEnglishClub.com

Through You VIP - CommentaryHello, this is AJ. Welcome to the extra audio commentary for this month’s VIP lessonand our topic is ‘Through You Consciousness.’ Kind of an interesting and different topic, really, something I’ve been thinking about quite a bit in the last several months in termsof my own life, in fact.As you know, most of the topics for VIP come from experiences in my own life. I like totry things first before I teach them to you. Now, this idea of ‘through you’ consciousness, you know ‘by you’ consciousness, I think it’s a really important core attitude to thinkabout because we kind of have these three different deep perspectives on life, everything in life is what we’re talking about, kind of a big topic. On one hand we have this big kind of world view, general, central, world view that’s howyou see the whole world. How you see your life. How you see the Universe. How yousee everything that happens in your life, all your experiences and on one hand you canhave, basically, the passive mentality. That it’s all happening to you, right? That youhave no influence over any of it; that everything is kind of out of your control and that, essentially, you are a victim of circumstances. Now, the sad part about that mentality is that it tends to be a self-fulfilling prophecy. That’s a nice phrase in English – self-fulfilling prophecy. It means a belief that causesitself to become true.Let’s imagine, for example, you could believe that you’re weak. You say oh, I’m weak.I’m a weak person. I’m weak. I’m weak. I’m physically weak. I can’t do hard work. So ifyou had that belief, possibly, you might then decide well, because I’m weak I can’t dohard work and therefore you would not do hard work and because you did not do hardwork you never would get stronger. So the belief that you are weak would actually endup being true, but it’s true because you believed it. That’s a self-fulfilling prophecy.Well, it’s the same with this passive idea that everything is happening to you; you know, that kind of consciousness, to you consciousness, where you believe you’re a victim ofcircumstances. The danger of that world view is that it can be a self-fulfilling prophecy.Just because you believe that, you can end up becoming more and more and more of avictim; a victim of bad luck, a victim of circumstances, a victim of other people’s badintentions, all of those things.Even worse, let’s say you have had some kind of victimization in your life, somethingbad has happened to you maybe when you very small, very young, when you trulycouldn’t do much about it. Well, the event may have been very bad, but what’s evenworse is the belief then that you’re a victim, that you’re a victim of circumstances; thatwww.EffortlessEnglishClub.com

you’re not the person who is ultimately in control of your own mind, body, spirit and life. That’s why we can see these very sad stories of people who’ve been abused, forexample, when they were younger. Now that’s sad, but it doesn’t mean that someone has to have a miserable life the restof their life as they become adults. It doesn’t mean they have to become, you know, alcoholics or drug addicts. It doesn’t mean they have to get into abusive relationships.None of those things are necessary and, yet, a lot of people who have been abusedwhen they were young do end up living those kinds of lives and making those kinds ofchoices as they get older. It’s because that young experience gave them these beliefs that they were powerless, that the rest of the world was just happening to them. There’s not much they could doabout it and it created a kind of victim mentality in them which then as they becameadults became a self-fulfilling prophecy where they continued to become victims againand again and again and again and again. When I was a social worker I saw this pattern many times. It’s very, very sad and cansometimes be very hard to break, but there are many people who do break that patternand, in fact, there are many people who never develop that pattern at all. For somereason they suffer abuse when they’re young, but they don’t believe that they’repowerless. They don’t believe that they’re a victim of circumstance; that everything ishappening to them. For some reason they decide that okay, this happened to me now. Ican’t do much about it now as a child, but they decide I’m going to make it differentwhen I get older because when I’m older I will be the master of my own life. It’s people like Oprah Winfrey who’s a famous talk show host in the United States. I’vementioned her before. She’s a good example. She was severely abused when she wasyounger, but she didn’t develop the victim mentality. She instead developed the ‘by you’mentality or ‘by me’ mentality. It’s the proactive mentality or consciousness or worldview. That’s the second one I talked about in this lesson, which is the idea that I amcreating my own destiny. I am creating my own life. Ultimately, it’s my own beliefs andmy own actions and my own emotions and my consistent habits that determine the kindof life I have.Obviously, that’s a much more powerful attitude towards life and you’ll find that mosthigh achievers, very successful people in different fields, tend to have that attitudebecause you need that attitude in order to achieve great success because to achievesuccess in some area, whether it’s financial or relationships or a career or whatever, you gotta overcome – you must overcome – a lot of big challenges. Even if you’re verytalented, you still are going to face challenges and to overcome challenges you musthave this belief that okay, I can do it. I determine my own worth. I determine whathappens in my life. I am the master of my own life.www.EffortlessEnglishClub.com

People with the victim mentality when they have a challenge they say oh, no, it’shappening again. Oh, all this bad stuff is happening to me again. See, I’m a victim. Theytend to just, you know, feel depressed or feel bad for themselves and complain and feelweak when challenges happen; when difficult things happen. So they don’t become highachievers, obviously. The people who become high achievers are the ones who say no, no, I am the master. Iwill use this challenge to become stronger. They believe that everything that happens isa challenge for them to overcome; that it’s just a matter of their own strength andwillpower and determination and focus. That’s all they need and they can accomplishanything they really want to accomplish. That’s a very powerful world view. I would say that’s the world view of people like TonyRobbins, super athletes, someone like Michael Jordan. Most people who really fight tothe top or fight to achieve some big success against lots of challenges, they usuallyhave this mentality. And, yet, that’s not the only one I talked about. I talked about a thirdone. I talked about this third one because it’s kind of the ultimate level ofconsciousness; the highest level. Maybe not the highest, there could be higher spirituallevels, but it’s probably the highest in terms of just being common; something that wecan all fairly easily develop. It’s a kind of consciousness I think that happens with maturity; that happens as you startto achieve your goals and you start to overcome all these challenges and you feelconfident in yourself, but then you start feeling a larger purpose and that’s what ‘throughyou’ consciousness really is. It’s a feeling of being part of something bigger, that you arepart of a larger purpose. Now, people who are religious might describe that in religious terms. They might feellike I am part of the God head or I am part of the entire Universe and indeed you are.Physics and physicists have proven exactly that -- that we’re not all little separate thingsthat are divided. In fact, we’re all connected and, ultimately, everything is all one whole. Now that’s hard for our little human brains to understand because we have these littlefinite brains and bodies, but we can still get a sense of it. That’s what the ‘through you’consciousness is. So I’m not talking about becoming a great super enlightened Buddhaand you realize at all moments that you are one with the entire Universe and all, ohm. That’s great, but that takes a lot of work, you know? A lot of holy people from differentreligions, holy, h-o-l-y, meaning pure or saintly, a lot of holy people from various religionshave gone off into the desert for 40 days, 60 days, just meditating or whatever. They’vedone very extreme difficult things to get to that super high level.www.EffortlessEnglishClub.com

Maybe that’s the ultimate high level of human consciousness, but that’s not what I’mtalking about. I’m talking about something that all of us in every day life can have, thisfeeling, not that you are constantly all at one with everything, but just that you have thisfeeling and this faith and this knowledge that you are part of something bigger; that youhave a purpose that’s bigger than just your own success. It’s not just about me. I’mgoing to get more money and I’m going to get the perfect girl or guy that I want or I’mgoing to get everything I want, me, me, me, me, me, me, me.‘Through you’ consciousness is like yes, I’m going to have a great life for myself, but I’malso part of a family and a community and a planet and yes, indeed, a whole Universeand that I am connected to all of those things and that I have a purpose that isconnected to that larger self and, at it’s most powerful, this ‘through you’ consciousnessis the idea and indeed the feeling that that larger purpose, that larger connection, isactually working through you; that you are an agent of a higher calling, a higherpurpose, not just your own selfish desires, but something bigger, a greater good. Now, this could be something very practical where you feel like you have a mission let’ssay to teach children and so you feel like okay, it’s not just me. I’m not just doing this forme, me, me, I have a mission. For some reason I feel inside me this mission to teachchildren and then, as you develop that feeling, you actually start feeling that someenergy or something is guiding you and helping you. When you have that viewpoint, youview any problem or challenge as a positive teaching and learning experience. You viewit as guidance.See, someone who has the ‘by me’, that very proactive viewpoint, which is verypowerful, they look at challenges as something to overcome. Ah-ha, this is a challenge. It’s like lifting weights, right? This is something that’s difficult, but I will overcome it andin the process I will learn and get stronger and then I could overcome bigger challengeslater.I’ve had that consciousness for quite a while, but I’m developing this otherconsciousness level too, this ‘through you’ idea. When you have that, when you havethis feeling that you’re part of something bigger, a bigger purpose, a greater good, something like that, then a challenge comes and when you’re in that viewpoint you thinkah, this problem, this challenge, I’m being guided. I’m actually being helped. This appears to be a difficulty and a problem, but I need to look deeper. I need to reallythink about this problem, this challenge, deeply and look at it from different viewpointsbecause I believe that, in fact, it’s something that is happening in order to teach me, tomake me wiser, to actually benefit me and benefit the greater good, to benefit mypurpose, to benefit the bigger mission; that some greater good or power or energy orsomething is actually using this challenge to guide me and help me. It’s an interestingdifference in viewpoint.www.EffortlessEnglishClub.com

See, what I have found is that very proactive viewpoint, you know ‘by me’, veryproactive, it’s powerful. It helped me to leave jobs and start my own company. It helpedme to take a lot of risks in my life and go after all the dreams and goals I ever wanted;you know, traveling the world and having a certain kind of lifestyle and freedom. Lotsand lots and lots of great things that I have achieved I achieved with that mentality. It’skind of strong determination and this belief that I create my own destiny. However, what I’ve found lately as I’ve achieved most of those things is that if you’reconstantly in that mindset it can become exhausting after a while and I’ve recentlybegun to feel tired, kind of tired of always having to be ah, I must push and drive andovercome these obstacles and rah! I still find that viewpoint useful. So sometimes that isa very useful viewpoint to have and I still do use it. I’m not saying it’s bad. It’s not bad,it’s very good.It depends on the phase in your life that you’re at. For some people that is exactly whatthey should focus on, that ‘by me’ consciousness, being super proactive and they don’tneed to worry about this ‘through me’ idea. But as you get a little older maybe or as youbegin to achieve some of these goals, it’s good to develop something wider. Becausethe nice thing about this ‘through me’ idea, that you’re working for something bigger andthat something bigger is working through you, the great thing about that is it’s muchmore peaceful and effortless and relaxing. You see, when you’re trying to be very proactive and a problem comes then you have torah, get really energetic. I will get through this challenge, rah! But when you’re workingfor something greater and something greater is helping you and you feel that andbelieve that then when a problem comes you’re kind of more relaxed. You’re like well, okay, this is another message. This is just another message I have to figure out. This isjust another piece of guidance that is here to help me in some way. I just have to figureout how it’s supposed to help and what I’m supposed to do.So, challenges actually become almost welcome. You almost welcome them. Whenthey come you’re like oh, okay, what’s this meant to teach me? What’s this meant to do?How is this meant to guide me? You can kind of greet it with more of a relaxed smileand then just figure it out. Also, you have a feeling that it’s not just your own energy thatyou’re using, but that you’re actually connected to some great big energy out there andthat let’s you work harder but feel more relaxed. So that’s what I’ve been focusing on lately in my own life is really developing thismindset, this mentality and, you know, sometimes I do and sometimes I don’t.Sometimes I’m much more proactive and, rah, super energized and goal-oriented, butwww.EffortlessEnglishClub.com
