Life Purpose - AudioHello my special VIP, welcome to this month’s lesson. Now this month’s topic is big, very big. It’s a super huge topic and the topic is this -- ‘Purpose’, ‘Life Purpose.’ Yup,that’s a big one. What is your life purpose? What is the meaning of your life? What isthe big purpose you have that drives you that motivates you that encourages you thatgives you strength and power every single day? Now, before we talk about that, we should probably discuss the difference betweengoals and purpose because there is, in fact, a very, very big difference, a very importantdifference. Now, everybody has goals, but many people don’t feel that they have a purpose. Andyou can have more than one purpose. You might have a couple different purposes inyour life, but what’s the difference? You know everybody has goals, but not everybody has a purpose, that feeling of ahuge, big, life purpose and meaning that gives them energy and power every single day.A lot of people don’t have that. So the main difference is what is a goal? Let’s ask thatfirst. What is a goal?So a goal is something that you want in the future. For example, you might say my goalis to make $50,000 U.S. dollars a month. Maybe that’s your goal. Is that a purpose? It’snot. It’s not a life purpose. It’s not a purpose at all. Does that mean it’s bad? No, it’s fineto have goals. We all have goals. I have goals. Everybody has goals. Goals are great. One of the great things about goals is that they are measurable. You know if youachieve them or not, so they can also help to motivate you quite a bit. They can alsogive you a good amount of energy. Goals can push you to grow, to become more, tolearn more, to be a better person, to be a more effective person, a stronger person, amore caring person, a healthier person. You know, goals are great, but the difference is this. Well, the good part about a goal isthat it’s measurable, you know if you achieved it or not. If you say I want to make$50,000 a month every month, well, you know if you did it. You can look at your bankstatement or your paycheck and you can see well, I only made $30,000 this month, so Ihave not achieved my goals yet. So very clear, very measurable. When you make goalsthat’s what you want. You want them to be clear and measurable. If you read any book about making goals or setting goals, they always tell you to be veryspecific and to have measurable goals. So, let’s say in the area of health. Maybe youfeel like you’re overweight, so you say I’m going to lose 15 pounds or 10 kilos; again,www.EffortlessEnglishClub.com

very specific, very measurable. You can get on a scale, you can record your weight andthen you can weigh yourself every day and you can see if you’re getting closer to yourgoal or further away or nothing is changing.Very, very, specific, very easy and clear and that’s why people generally like goals andwhy most people have goals and it’s quite easy to create goals, because they are sospecific and measurable and understandable, but that is also the weakness of goals. It’sthe limitation. I shouldn’t say weakness, let’s say limitation. Goals are great, but theyhave a big limitation and it’s because they are measurable and so specific, becausewhat happens when you achieve your goal?Let’s say you have a big goal. Let’s go back to the money one. Let’s say you want to berich. Let’s say you want to make $1 million every year. Every year you want your incometo be $1 million and that’s your big goal. That’s great and that goal motivates you. Itmakes you work harder and harder and you have to learn more and more and moreabout business. You have to meet so many people and you have to really become abigger and better and stronger person and a great leader. It really pushes you to grow in so many ways and that’s fantastic. You’re always lookingto that goal, $1 million a year; $1 million a year. I can do it. I can do it and the daycomes and you do it. You do it. Yes! And what happens? You feel great. You celebrate. You party. Woo-hoo, I did it! All your friends are happy and your family’s happy for a fewmonths and then what happens?Well, if you have ever achieved a big goal like that, especially a goal that seemedimpossible, you know what happens next. After you achieve that big, incredible, hugegoal that was so tough, you feel great for a while, but then, eventually, somethinghappens. You feel your energy dropping. You feel your motivation dropping. Yourhappiness may be dropping. You might even feel a bit disappointed like oh, my God. Idid this big goal, now what? Now what do I do? What’s next? Is this all there is in life?Tony Robbins talks about this, people who make big goals, like, for example, theastronauts who went to the moon. Huge goal, amazing, but guess what? A year latermany of them became severely depressed. They achieved this incredible goal thatseemed impossible, but they did it, but then, after you do something like that what’snext, right? Everything else felt kind of small and not important to them and so theybecame actually very, very depressed after achieving that big goal. That’s the limitationof goals. They have an end. Do you see what I’m saying?Goals, because they’re measurable and specific, it also means they end. There’s afinish line for a goal. You decide I’m going to have three children. That’s your goal. Youhave three children. You’re done. It’s finished, finished. You decide you’re going to run awww.EffortlessEnglishClub.com

marathon and you train and you exercise and you do all these things and then you runthe marathon and after that it’s finished.I did that. I ran two marathons. It was one of my big goals in life, I wanted to runmarathons. I ran two of them and then afterwards I mean I felt great, but then after I sortof starting feeling well, that all? Do I just run another one and another one and anotherone? Well, that seems like I’m just doing the same thing again, hum. I had a little bit ofnot depression, but a little bit of disappointment after achieving that goal.See, that’s what can happen with goals so often. That’s why purpose is so important, sohere’s the difference. A purpose has no end. It never ever ends. It’s so big, it’s so huge, there’s not one specific finish line. Let me give you an example.A goal is to run a marathon. A purpose is to be an example of super health and energyand to help other people who are suffering, who are in bad shape, who are physicallysick, get stronger and get healthier and also feel great and super energetic. That’s apurpose. You see the difference? That purpose can never end. There will always be other people in the world who feelbad who you could help feel better, feel stronger and healthier and if your purpose is tobe a super example of health and energy that also never ends. You can’t become superhealthy and then decide well, I did it, now I can eat donuts and sit and watch TV all day.You can’t do it, because then you’ll no longer be super healthy and you gotta startagain. It’s not a goal it’s a purpose that will keep you motivated all of your life. It’s part of you. It’s part of the meaning of your life. It never ever, ever ends. See, that’s the difference.A purpose is really a huge life direction. You can have a purpose and inside the purposeyou might have a lot of little goals. So if I want to be an example of super health andfitness all my life, well, I might have goals like I want to run a marathon. I want to lifeweights. I want to do this and I can achieve those specific goals, but then there willalways be a new one. There’s always going to be something new because I have thisbig purpose. One of the things about a purpose, usually, is it’s bigger than just you. It’s not only aboutjust you, right? In that example, I said I want to be an example of super health andfitness for other people; to inspire other people to be healthy and to help other peoplefeel better, feel more energetic, not be sick so much and be more active. You see thedifference? It involves other people. I’m an example for other people. I’m helping otherpeople. It’s almost infinite. I can always find a way to do that. It’s never going to end. It’s the same, let’s say, financially, with money. You can say I want to earn $1 million ayear. Maybe that’s a lot of money to you. Maybe that’s not a lot of money to you. I don’twww.EffortlessEnglishClub.com

know how rich you are, but it doesn’t matter because when you achieve that goal, ifthat’s all you have, afterwards you’re going to feel some disappointment eventually. You’ll feel great in the beginning. Yeah! You’ll party and feel great, but then, eventually, you’ll start to feel disappointment. Your goal is finished, now what do I do? But what ifyou have a purpose? What if your purpose is to build an amazing, inspiring, innovativecompany that changes people’s lives for the better? Now that is a purpose. It will neverend, never. Okay?If you want to be innovative, for example, you can create something that’s really cool.Let’s say you’re Apple, Apple Computer and that’s the mission. That’s the purpose ofApple, of Steve Jobs the CEO of Apple. Well, guess what? Let’s say you create theiPod, for example. It’s super innovative. It’s amazing. Wow! You achieve that goal. Youfinish that project. Can you now just stop? Now it’s over? No, because the thing aboutinnovation is innovation means change. It means constantly new and creative things. So the iPod in the beginning was innovative, 10 years later it’s not innovative anymore. So that’s a purpose. That means that Apple can never stop trying to be innovative. Theycan never stop learning. They can never stop improving. They can never stop doingnew things and trying new things. That’s a purpose. That’s super powerful. Goals arepowerful. A purpose is unstoppable. If you have a strong purpose in your heart, yourgut, your mind, you cannot be stopped. Nothing can stop you. You have a small failure, you don’t care. You keep going. You keep trying. That’s the power of a purpose. So Iwant to encourage you this month to find a purpose. Now, I know that this is a little intimidating or scary for some people. I have met a lot ofpeople and when I talk about purpose, I ask them about purpose, they say they don’tknow. I don’t know, I don’t know, ah, and they get very stressed about it. Some peoplehave been thinking about this for years and they still can’t find their purpose. They’vebeen searching and looking, but they can’t find it.Here’s the problem. The problem is most people have an idea that a purpose is one, big, perfect, thing and they’re going to find it and then boom, they’ll suddenly feelincredible passion and energy for the rest of their life. That’s not how it works, actually. That’s not how it works. It doesn’t happen like this. It’s not just boom. Almost never doessomeone just get a purpose like that. You know, we’ve heard of some exceptions. We’ve heard that Mozart since he wasthree years old he was making music and composing symphonies and we think that’swhat it should be like. Well, guess what, that’s a very rare exception. Even Mozart had afather who was musician who taught him an encouraged him and kind of pushed him inthat direction. It didn’t happen by magic.www.EffortlessEnglishClub.com

Now most of us didn’t have that kind of experience, so we’re maybe a little confused. What’s my purpose in life? I don’t know. That’s okay, I was the same. Here’s the truth. Apurpose is something that develops and evolves and grows as you pursue it and lookfor it and develop it. So, basically, a purpose can start as something very small andselfish, but then as you begin to pursue that it becomes a little bigger and a little biggerand a little bigger. Let me give you an example from my own life.So I didn’t know what my purpose was, but I had some clues, some hints and whereyou find the clues, the hints, are pain and pleasure. I did know that there were certainthings in my life that I really loved and enjoyed and I felt great doing and there wereother things in my life that I really hated and that were really boring to me. Well, justthose two things helped me to find my purpose. I mean that’s how you find it.So, for example, I really hated working in jobs. I hated having a boss tell me how toteach. I hated having a regular schedule like 9:00 to 5:00 or something like that. I hatedteaching from textbooks and just doing boring stuff like that and just trying to be Mr.Serious Teacher all the time. All of that stuff made me feel bored.I also loved some things. For example, I love to travel to other countries. I love to meetpeople in other countries, learn about their culture. I just love the feeling of newness andstrangeness, because it made me break my own patterns and made me think in newand different ways. I loved it.I also found something interesting. I actually loved to process of teaching. I reallyenjoyed being up in front of people and I found that I enjoyed making them laugh whilethey were learning. I enjoyed kind of entertaining them at the same time and that kind ofhelped me find my purpose, my direction. I didn’t start with some huge purpose, I juststarted with this. I want to be free.I realized when I looked at my pain and my pleasure that I valued freedom and traveland fun. So I said okay, that’s what I want in my life. I want to be free. I want to be freeto work any time I want. I want to be free to teach and work any where the way that Iwant. I choose. No one tells me what to do. I want to have my own schedule. I want tohave the freedom to travel around the world and live my perfect, ideal, lifestyle. I want tohave enough money to do that. I want to be able to teach in a way that’s fun andexciting for my students and myself because it just feels good and I like it. That was themotivation to develop Effortless English. Now, you’ve noticed that all of those things were actually kind of selfish, really justfocused on me and my own happiness. I wanted to be free. I wanted to live how Iwanted. I wanted enough money. I wanted to have fun. So it was really just focused onme. It was not a huge, big, purpose. It was just this is what I want in my life to feel goodand so I pursued it, very, very strongly, but guess what happened?www.EffortlessEnglishClub.com

As I pursued this, as I did achieve personal freedom for myself and I got enough moneyfor myself and I achieved all of these things for myself, I found something interesting. Ifound that I was helping a lot of people. I could see my students improving and thenthey were having great things happen in their life – getting better jobs, getting intoschools that they wanted to study at, traveling around the world, making new friends. Inoticed that they were happier and laughing and enjoying the learning process. I startedgetting all these incredible emails and comments on my blog and that made me feelfantastic.I also noticed that I had some anger about the old school way, the old system; becauseI could see that the students were suffering. The students were in pain. They werebored, frustrated, angry, stressed and that bothered me a lot. I remembered, too, thatEnglish gave me so many opportunities. I can travel the world, almost anywhere, because I speak English and English is the global language.I realized I want other people to have this opportunity. I want my students to have thesame opportunity, because I have learned so much from traveling the world and somany great experiences and I want other people to share and to have thoseexperiences too and so I realized that I have a purpose bigger than just me. That, infact, I love helping other people and I want other people to have happier lives and I canhelp them. And so my selfish purpose became a purpose much bigger than me and I decided thatmy purpose is to totally change English education in the world – to make it fun andpowerful and effective, to help the students feel happy and enjoy the learning process,to help my students get better jobs, study in better universities, travel abroad, havefriends in different countries, communicate with people all over the world, all theseincredible things and when that became my purpose, not just me, but helping all theseother people, I became unstoppable. Nothing can stop me.I have super motivation and energy with Effortless English, with this project. It’s not justa business anymore to me. It’s not just about money. I have plenty of money now. I don’tneed any more money, really, but I am on a purpose. I have a mission now and thatmakes me feel fantastic, because it’s something that motivates me every single day. It’snot just one event. It’s not something I will achieve and then I’m finished. I’ll never finishthis. When I’m 90 years old, I will probably still be doing this. Hopefully, you’ll still be aVIP member at that time. You see the power of a purpose, something bigger thanyourself? So here’s the thing. Don’t get stressed if you don’t know what it is or you’ve thoughtabout it and oh, I don’t know A.J. Here’s what I want you to do first, just start with thepain and pleasure in your life. Ask yourself a few questions and write the answers.www.EffortlessEnglishClub.com

Number one, what gives you the most happiness and pleasure in your life? What do youjust love the most, enjoy the most? Make a long list.Number two, what in your life do you just really hate? You hate doing it. You’re still doingit, but you just hate it. It’s so boring or painful or terrible. What are those things? Make alist. Write them out.You could even make a third list. What’s mediocre in your life? It’s not great. It’s not bad. It’s just kind of boring. Make a list of those things and then look for patterns and thenjust decide that your first step is to go after the things that make you feel great. You’regoing to get more of that in your life somehow. That’s your first purpose and you’regoing to eliminate these bad and boring things as much as possible.Once you do that then you can ask yourself the question, how can I help other peopledo the same thing that I just did? How can I help other people who are like me, who alsowant these things in their life, who also love these things and who also hate thesethings? You don’t need to help every single person in the world. You don’t have to go and helppoor people in India if you don’t want to. We all have a different purpose. There areplenty of people in the world who need help. You can find the people like yourself andhelp them and encourage them as well, so it’s not just you alone on this journey, you’reactually helping and encouraging other people as well. So that’s what I want you to dothis month. You can also listen to the audio commentary; I’ll talk more about thisprocess.Have a great day and find your purpose. See you again, bye-bye.www.EffortlessEnglishClub.com

Sometimes you’ll notice that Imight use two kinds of grammar at the same time. I might say he felt lost or he had feltlost. They have a little bit different feeling, a little bit different time feeling, but sometimeswe can use more than one. We have more than one choice when we speak.I don’t want you to think about this too much. The reason I say it is that in school somany of you learned that there’s one right answer and you think there’s one formula --that in this situation I always use the past and in this situation I always use the pastperfect, but that’s not true. That’s not the case. In fact, in many situations we havedifferent choices. We can actually use one kind of grammar or a different kind ofgrammar and both of them are perfectly correct and fine.So you don’t need to worry about it too much, just listen to the story, answer thequestions. Let that grammar get inside you so you can feel it instead of thinking about it.Listen to the mini story every single day. That’s how you do it.All right, I’ll see you again soon, bye-bye.www.EffortlessEnglishClub.com

Life Purpose – Point of ViewHello my VIP. Welcome to the point-of-view stories. I’ll just tell the same story again, butfrom different points of view, different timeframes and, thus, different grammar.Let’s start just start as if it’s all happening right now. We are with Duke the dog as itshappening.* * * * *So there is a dog named Duke and he feels lost. In fact, he has felt lost his entirelife and he’s still feeling lost at the age of five. He feels lost at the age of five, because he doesn’t know what his life purpose is. He has no idea what his lifepurpose is and, at the age of five, this upsets him.Even at the age of five, it upsets him. In fact, he can’t enjoy playing with otherdogs, because he’s always asking himself, what’s my purpose? What’s mypurpose? I don’t know my purpose. What’s my purpose? So, even as a younglittle dog, he’s unhappy, he’s upset, he’s stressed and he’s obsessed with his lifepurpose. That’s all he can think about is his life purpose.Well, he continues feeling stressed and continues feeling upset as he grows up,as he gets older. And, you know, his 12 th birthday comes and his 14 th birthdaycomes and his 16 th birthday comes and then his 20 th birthday comes and he stillfeels upset and stressed. And why?Because he still doesn’t know what his life purpose is. He still doesn’t know. Now he even has a girlfriend at this time, a very nice wonderful girlfriend namedPenelope, Penelope the pig. Penelope is sweet and wonderful, yet, Duke the dogisn’t happy with her. He’s not happy with her at all. It’s not because Penelope’sbad, it’s because he feels stressed and upset still, all the time. Something totally changes inside him and he decides tofinally stop asking that question. What’s my purpose?www.EffortlessEnglishClub.com

He has a breakthrough. Instead, he decides to just have fun and thoroughly andcompletely and fully enjoy his life and so he moves to Hawaii. He moves to Hawaiiand he learns to surf and he discovers that he loves it. He loves surfing. It’swonderful. He’s so happy when he’s surfing and so he surfs daily. Every day hesurfs and because he’s surfing so much, he gets better and better and better veryquickly. In just a few years, he becomes a great surfer and he wins the World SurfingChampionships and at that time he realizes something. He has felt lost andempty. He has felt stressed and upset. And why has he felt so stressed and upset?Because he has not known his life purpose. He has not known the purpose of his life. Infact, he has asked himself constantly, every single day since the age of five, what’s mylife purpose? What’s my life purpose? What’s my life purpose? This has obsessed him. It’s all he has been able to think about. So who has been obsessed about his life purpose since the age of five?Duke the dog has been obsessed about his life purpose since the age of five untilrecently. Now, of course, at the age of five, he felt lost and upset and angry and stressed. And why did he feel that way?He felt that way, because at that time he had not found his life purpose still. Now, of course, at the age of 20, he still felt lost, because at that time he still hadnot found his life purpose. age of 20. Now, he had had a girlfriend by that time and her name was Penelope, but he broke up with her, because he was so miserable.Well, finally at the age of 30, something happened. He had a breakthrough. Hedecided to stop worrying about this question. He decided to stop asking himself, what’s my purpose. He decided to just have fun and thoroughly and fully andcompletely enjoy his life. And so he moved to Hawaii and he learned to surf and he surfed every day, because he was so happy when he surfed and, because of that, he became a trulygreat surfer in just a few years. And, in fact, he won the World SurfingChampionships. He was so happy, because at that time he suddenly realized this is my lifepurpose. At that moment he realized it and so, from that point on, he was veryhappy and, from that point on, he decided to help other people too and that’swhen his life truly became wonderful, when he totally and fully lived his lifepurpose of being a great surfer and also helping other people enjoy surfing.* * * * *That’s the end of version two. Always listen for those words like since or by. They helpyou understand the grammar a little better. Don’t think about it, just listen and hearthose words. Notice them. That’s all.Our third version -- Into the future we’re imaging this. We’re dreaming it, whatever. Herewe go.* * * * *In the future, there will be a dog named Duke and he’s gonna’ (gonna’ meansgoing to, of course) he’s gonna’ feel lost. In fact, he’s gonna’ have felt lost hisentire life. And why will he have felt so lost?Well, because he will have had no idea what his life purpose is. He won’t know. And when he’s five? He’s gonna’ feel lost, totally, completely, lost, empty.www.EffortlessEnglishClub.com

He’s gonna’ feel lost when he’s five years old. He won’t be able to enjoy playingwith the other dogs, because he’ll always be asking himself, what’s my purpose? What’ my purpose? What’s my purpose? And that’s gonna’ make him feelmiserable. And he’ll continue feeling miserable and then at the age of 20, he’ll actually havea girlfriend named Penelope. Her name will be Penelope, but he’s gonna’ break upwith her. He’s gonna’ break up with her, because he’s still gonna’ be so miserable. He’s gonna’ be so miserable, because, still, he will not have found his lifepurpose. And this will continue for several years more until, finally, at the age of 30, he’sgonna’ have a breakthrough. He’ll have a big, sudden, breakthrough and he’llrealize I need to stop obsessing about this question. And he’ll decide to stopasking himself, what’s my purpose. He’ll decide to that and, instead, he’s gonna’decide to just have fun and totally, completely, fully, enjoy his life and that’s whathe’ll do.He’ll immediately move to Hawaii and he’ll learn to surf and he’ll discover that heloves surfing, that he feels so happy when he’s surfing. Because he’s gonna’ beso happy when he’s surfing, he’ll surf daily, every single day, and he’ll love it. Andbecause of that, he’ll become a truly great surfer fairly quickly. In fact, he’s gonna’ win the World Surfing Championships. And at that moment, that’s when he’ll realize ha, I have found my life purpose. I found it, he’ll say. He’llrealize that surfing and helping other people enjoy surfing is indeed his lifepurpose and so he’ll become a surfing teacher. He’ll surf every day. He’ll teachsurfing every day and he’ll live a happy, fulfilled life.* * * * *And that’s the end of our point-of-view stories. As always, just listen to these stories. Don’t think about them logically. Do not get agrammar book and try to remember all the rules about these kinds of grammar. Don’t dothat. That will hurt you, not help you. All you need to do is listen to these stories everysingle day. Notice some of those words like he’ll, gonna’, since, by, and understand andfeel the meaning. Feel how those stories are a little bit different. If you don’t totally, logically, understand it that’s fine. Don’t worry. You don’t want tologically understand it, you want to feel it and that just takes a little time. It takes youlistening to these stories again and again and again every single day, every month, andwww.EffortlessEnglishClub.com

then you will get a feeling for correct English grammar. That’s how you use itautomatically when you speak. So just enjoy the stories and relax. I’ll see you again, bye-bye.www.EffortlessEnglishClub.com

Life Purpose - CommentaryHello my special VIP and welcome to the commentary for this month’s VIP topic ‘LifePurpose.’Now in the video I talked about this general topic of life purpose and the differencebetween a purpose and goals. Obviously, a purpose is much bigger. A purpose mightcontain lots and lots of goals, but a purpose is really something that gives somemeaning to your life and it’s important to find your own purpose because, as you know, society, our culture, media, parents, all of these things are constantly trying to tell uswhat we should do and how we should live. Most people are living a life that they really did not think carefully about and choosethemselves. They did not really do the hard work of thinking about it for quite a whileand finding that which gives the most happiness and passion. That’s how you knowyou’ve found your life purpose. That every day you feel this feeling of happiness andpassion and you want to share it, but unfortunately, most people just accept whatthey’re told. They may be living the life or the purpose that their parents pushed onto them. I’m notsaying the parents were bad or anything like that. It’s just that, you know, parents do thissometimes. They push their children to be something, but maybe that’s not the bestthing for the child and some of us, as we become adults, we’re still trying to do what ourparents pushed us to do, but we don’t really feel passion and happiness doing it. So wehave not found our purpose, if that’s the case.Other people will take a purpose from society, from some authority figure, perhaps areligious figure, a priest or something like that, that tells them this is the purpose of life. This is the meaning of life and this is what you must do, but once again, that’ssomebody else’s purpose and even if you are very religious, you are an expert. You area human. No priest, no religious person in authority, knows anything more about your own spirit orif you choose to use the word God or whatever you want to call it, nobody else knowsbetter than you do. You are equally human and so listening to these people tell you whatyour purpose should be, is likely to make you very unhappy and to cause you to makeother people unhappy too. Some people just blindly follow what they are taught in the media and movies and ourgeneral cultures, almost everywhere now, which is that it’s all about money and statusand what other people think of you. And so many people are chasing more and moremoney and a better and better job, bigger and bigger house, more and more expensivewww.EffortlessEnglishClub.com

clothes, so that other people will look at them and say oh, look how rich and importantthey are. Now, there are people, businesspeople that I know who just love the game of business. It’s really fun to them. They love it. It gives them a great feeling and they also havemaybe a bigger purpose with their business – to change the world in some way, to helppeople in some way and that’s great. You can tell the difference when you meet thesepeople – the people who have a big purpose or the people who are just chasing moneyand status because that’s what they were told to do.You see the point is not that there’s one right or wrong answer, because there’s adifferent right or wrong answer. There’s a different purpose for each of us. What youhave to do and I know it’s not easy, is you have to find the things in life that give you themost passion, the most energy, the most happiness and then you have to pursue thosethings with incredible energy and persistence. You also have to look at the opposite side of the coin -- those things which drain you, which make you feel weaker, which make you feel tired, which make you feel bored, which you really, really, really, don’t like. You must find ways to eliminate those things orpeople from your life. It’s not always easy. Sometimes it’s very difficult, but this is your life. You know what’seven more difficult? Living someone else’s life, living to follow other people’s rules, thenreaching the end of your life and realizing that you never truly lived. That’s the mosthorrible thing that can happen to a human being. Don’t let it happen to you. And it’s nottoo late. I don’t care what your age is, it’s not too late.So let’s get to some specifics. How can you start looking for this purpose? And,remember, you’re not just going to find it one day, aha! It’s something that’s going todevelop and grow. So in the beginning it might not feel like this huge, massive, purpose, but as long as it makes you feel more passion and more energy and happiness andwhen you do it, it seems to make other people happy too, that’s it. Follow that.Don’t worry if it’s the right answer, just follow it and when you follow those things, thethings that give you passion and happiness, then you will discover other things that giveyou even more happiness and passion that you never even imagined before and thenas you follow those things, you’ll find other things which give you even more happinessand passion. In that way, it’s a path that leads you to your purpose. It might takemonths, it might take years, it might take decades, but it’s a fun path to be on. So thefirst thing I want you to think about is your daily activities.See, when we think of purpose, people usually want to think about what’s going tohappen 10 years from now. But I want you to look at what you do every single day, yourwww.EffortlessEnglishClub.com

daily routine, your daily activities, day-to-day, week to week and if you watched thevideo you already made a list of the things you love that give you passion andhappiness and the things that you hate. Well now what I want you to do is actually havea calendar and write down your typical day.Okay, I get up in the morning, I do this and then I eat this and then I talk to this personand then I drive to this job and then I do whatever I do at the job and you’re going towrite it all out. And then on the weekends I do something else and you’re going to writeall those things out and then you’re going to examine all of your typical daily activitiesand routines. You’re going to look at all of them. There’s a whole huge calendar for theweek and you’re going to ask yourself a few questions about each one of them. You’re going to look at each activity and you’re going to ask yourself, is this purposeful?Meaning, does this activity give me more happiness, more energy and more passion orat least of them. If yes, you could put like a big P next to it for purposeful. If the answeris no, then next you’re going to ask yourself, well is this activity draining? Does it makeme feel weaker, less happy, bored, stressed? Does it take away my power and energy? If the answer is yes, you’ll put a D for draining. Draining means taking away; pullingaway. If it’s neither one, if you answer no to both, then it’s probably an activity that is mediocre.Meaning it doesn’t make you feel great, it doesn’t make you feel bad, it’s just kind ofneutral. If that’s the case put an M next to the activity for mediocre. So, for example, I don’t know, maybe brushing your teeth in the morning is a mediocreactivity. I don’t feel great when I brush my teeth and I don’t feel bad when I brush myteeth, it’s just sort of neutral. But I don’t know, if you love brushing your teeth, forexample, if you’re a dentist whose purpose is to give people clean, shinny, wonderful, bright teeth so they have incredible smiles, brushing your teeth might be purposeful. So think about it, don’t just do it very quickly. Look at each activity and really think abouthum, does this activity make me feel better or worse and then go through the wholeweek. First of all, one whole day, then the whole next day, a whole week, at least, marking down P for purposeful or D for draining or M for mediocre. Then you’ll have a picture, like a snapshot picture of your life. That’s your life you’relooking at and what I want you to ask yourself and I want you to look at is do you seemostly Ps? Do you see mostly purposeful activities that give you happiness, energy andpassion or do you see mostly Ds, draining activities, which make you feel stressed, unhappy, weaker, more tired and more bored?www.EffortlessEnglishClub.com

Perhaps, you see mostly Ms, mediocre activities, which just don’t make you feel betterand don’t make you feel worse, you just have a bland life, a life with no flavor. No highs,no lows, just everything sort of in the middle. This is a powerful activity if you do it. So when you really do this activity and you’rereally honest, you will get a very clear picture of your life. You will have to be honest withyourself and you’ll see, you know, I’m living a very purposeful life or I’m living a life that’sdraining me and killing me or I’m leading a life that is just bland and mediocre. Don’tjudge it. Don’t get upset. If it’s mostly Ds and Ms it’s okay. You don’t need to judge it.You don’t need to get upset about it, but you need to see the truth so you can change itand if you’re living a life that’s already purposeful, fantastic. Keep going. Make it evenmore purposeful. So that’s what I want you to do. I want you to get the snapshot and itwill give you a big picture of your life. And, of course, the next question you’re going to have ask yourself is, is this where Iwant to be? Is my life as purposeful as I want it to be? And, honestly, for most peoplethe answer will be no. And so the next question is, how can I make my life, my day-todaylife, more purposeful? I’m not talking about 10 years from now. I’m not talking aboutsome goal for next year. I’m talking about tomorrow, today, this week. How can youmake more of your daily activities feel purposeful? In other words, they have somemeaning that gives you passion and happiness. Now an easy step is to first look at the Ds, the draining activities, and eliminate them.Find a way to eliminate them. I don’t know how you’re going to do it, but do it. If younotice that every time you interact with one person, a specific person, that it’s draining, you need to get rid of that person. Get them out of your life. If they’re a family member, you need to just stop calling them. Don’t see them very much.It sounds tough. It is tough, but you know what, tough shit. If they’re draining you, getthem out of your life. It doesn’t mean you have to eliminate them completely if they’re afamily member, but you don’t want to be talking to them or dealing with them very muchand if they’re not a family member, get rid of them completely. You don’t want drainingpeople in your life. They will suck you dry, suck your energy and suck out your life. Getrid of them. Look at the other activities that are draining. Find a way to reduce or get ridof them. Now if you notice, for example, that your job, your whole job, all the activities at your jobare draining that tells you something and you need to make a very strong, hard, decision. You know what the decision is and you’ve been afraid to do it, but you need todo it. This is your life. Don’t waste it at a job that’s killing you and draining you andmaking you unhappy and keeping you from your purpose and probably making yourfamily unhappy too and your friends. Make the tough decision and do what you need todo.www.EffortlessEnglishClub.com

This goes for all the draining activities in your life, eliminate them. Maybe you can’t do itin one day, but make it your purpose. Make it your goal to get rid of them over the nextmonth or two. It’s going to require some tough, hard, decisions, but you can make thosedecisions and you can do it and as you eliminate those things then, of course, you wantto replace them with other activities that make you feel happy and passionate and alive. You want to spend more time with the people who make you feel happy, passionate andalive. I mean that’s a clue. If there are certain people in your life that make you feelfantastic, there’s something you can learn from those people. Maybe you want to bemore like those people. Maybe you should look at those people and how they live theirlife and maybe you can find some good ideas for your own life from them or maybe youjust need to spend time with them. Maybe you just need to be around them more, talk tothem more, because they make you feel great. So make that a goal. Call them up every week. Schedule more time with them. Spendmore time with those people and find more people like that. When you meet otherpeople who make you feel great then spend time with them. Stay in touch with them. Then once you’ve done this then you can start eliminating the mediocre activities orchanging your attitude about them. Some mediocre activities you can’t eliminate. Brushing your teeth, for example, I wouldnot recommend eliminating that one. It’s good to have clean teeth. Or maybe you couldmake it a little more fun. For example, if you have children, what if you made a new littleritual in your family and you brushed your teeth with them every morning and everynight, a little extra time with your children.Maybe you could make it into some fun little game with them, like see who can brushtheir teeth the longest or you could make funny faces while you’re brushing your teethand you could actually have a nice kind of fun time with your children brushing yourteeth. I don’t know. It’s just an idea. It’s just a way you could take a mediocre everydayactivity and make it a little more special.Or if you are alone, you could brush your teeth, but make it a meditation exercise so youcould focus and clear your mind and just focus on your breathing and then focus veryintensely. Concentrate on the feeling of the toothbrush moving over your teeth andtouching your gums and really make it into an exercise of concentration and awareness. That would also change a mediocre activity into something a little more purposeful.See what I mean? You can do it with something even as simple as brushing your teeth, because, see, your big life purpose is born in your everyday activities. So many peoplethink it’s something outside that they have to find that is out there and is really huge, butreally what it is, is it’s found in the little daily activities that you love and in avoiding theones that you hate and transforming the mediocre ones into great ones.www.EffortlessEnglishClub.com

When you do that your purpose will start coming to you. You’ll actually start to attractyour purpose right, because you start moving in the right direction. You start getting yourdaily life moving towards passion, moving towards more fun, moving towards morehappiness and as you do that you discover more things, you learn more things and thenyou eventually do find that big purpose that will give you super, incredible, unstoppable, passion and energy and that will also, at the same time that you’re making yourself sopassionate and happy, you will also be helping other people be more passionate andhappy too.But you don’t just find it one day like this; rather, you discover it through the process ofmaking your daily activities more and more and more purposeful and passionate andhappy. You do that and then that big, big, life purpose where you’re changing yourwhole life and changing other people’s lives it comes to you. It might take weeks, itmight take months, it might take years, but don’t worry about the time, because the pathis really, really, enjoyable, okay? So, you’re just going to focus in on your daily activities. Do this exercise, go to the VIPsite and share the results. Now most VIP members don’t do this every month. You’re allso shy and worried about what people will think or maybe you’re busy, but there’s greatpower in sharing these things with other people. So I challenge you.
