of serious trouble. (Good storieshere. Ask me.) From Vietnam,I was reassigned to California, where, after a short detour toPanama to see my sister and enjoya chance meeting with Lt. AlanGauld ’64, I monitored Russianspace launch activity prior to beingreleased from the military in June1970. While stationed in California,I met and married Sandra DeRushaand subsequently returned withher to Boston to begin the 1970summer session at the BostonUniversity School of Engineering. After college, I worked as acomputer programmer for severalcompanies (GE, Children’s Hospital,General Cinema and a fewmore that no longer exist). In 1980,my wife and I divorced. After some 35 years in thecomputer mainframe applicationsdevelopment area, on Oct.31, 2012, I retired from Hewlett-Packard (consulting to AholdInformation Systems of the parentcompany to Stop & Shop, Giantand Giant Foods). I had remarriedin 1992, and Deborah and I havespent the past 21 years happily inMedfield, Mass., while workingin and around Boston. As Deb isa travel agent, we have been ableto travel more and at a level likelybeyond our means. We are luckyto have visited China, Europe (afew times) and many other greatplaces. My two children from myfirst marriage appear to be thriving.Nick is working as a therapistin NYC and lives in Brooklyn. Heand his wife, Sandi (in June 2012),gave me a beautiful granddaughter.Meghann is an elementary schoolteacher at a private school in Bostonand will be marrying in April!Although retired from HP,I’ve still got some business ideas.I’m excited to have some timeto regroup and get in touch withhow I can best finish out this shortlife. I expect that I will work again,in some form, other than thiswretched house stuff, which currentlyseems to dominate my time(no offense, honey). I have greatexpectations! I also have a piano, which I enjoy playing as much aspossible.Because I loved and admiredEliot T. Putnam, and took whathe said to heart, I give regularly toNobles. Having been out of touchfor some time, I hope to learn moreabout the school in the near future.Aside from Brooksie, who keepsme healthy, and the Cobbster, whokeeps me coming to reunions, Idon’t see much of the class. I’mlooking forward to seeing my Classof ’64 for the 50th and also hopeto see some old faces again from’63—two great classes. I’ve beenlucky!”Rick Farlow writes, “All goeswell here. Lee excels in her role atFIRST (Dean Kamen’s nonprofitpromoting science and engineeringto kids in elementary throughhigh school grades), and I continueto put Comcast business customers’IT networks back on the rails(most of the time, anyway). Inour spare time, we enjoy visitswith many wonderful children andgrandchildren. I’ve started takingadvantage of our proximity to theWhite Mountains and am lookingforward to more exhausting uphillstruggles—refreshing hikes in theWhites this spring. My best to all.Looking forward to seeing you atthe next reunion.”Alan Gauld writes, “I will seriouslyconsider the Nobles 50th.Nothing new here. I will soon headto Tucson (love that place, at leastin the winter) with my new traveltrailer. I picked it up in Michigan thispast September. (For some reason, part of which is transportation, they’re about $5K cheaper therethan here on the West Coast.) Ialso did a bike tour of the MichiganUpper Peninsula afterward withAdventure Cycling. I never thoughtin my younger hiking, snowshoeingand backpacking days that I wouldever be an RVer, but there it is.”Morris Gray reports, “After 46years in the private wealth managementbusiness, I retired in June2010. I loved my work attending tothe affairs of wealthy individualsand families. However, I had hadenough of the corporate structure, senseless regulation and bureaucracythat went along with it. I stillact as a private trustee for someof my former clients and serve onthe board of a small charitable organization, helping the elderly andimpoverished in Boston over therough spots while referring them tocity or state agencies for more permanentsolutions. I am enjoying thefreedom of retirement and am stillin the process of developing a newset of routines. Since the death ofour parents, my brothers, Bob ’66and Bill ’70, and I now jointly ownthe family summer home in Nonquittin south Dartmouth on thesoutheast coast of Massachusetts, which has been in the Gray familyfor five generations and where wegather the extended family in June,August and September. I come andgo as I please. Lotsof heads turned when someonecalled out ‘Miles!’ because therewas also another boy on the teamwhose first name was Miles. And as for me, I’m doing well, scaling back a bit, but still takinghigh-schoolers to France, Spainand China for language immersion(our 28th year), exercising, andchasing grandkids and kids around(five grandkids and eight niecesand nephews). Great fun! Besidesthe soccer/hockey group, anotheris into gymnastics, another danceand one is on the Olympic DevelopmentProgram Vermont girlssoccer U13 team.My wife, Helene, through theRassias Center at Dartmouth andWorld Fund, spends lots of timein Mexico, working with Mexicanteachers of English (see Inter-American Partnership for Education,I.A.P.E.).All that is keeping me out oftrouble and making for an enjoyablelife.
