Tilt&Turn – How Roto Designo II does moreWhat's new in Roto Tilt&Turn hardware?Designo II is the latest addition to our portfolio, with brandnew hinge technology and some other useful features too. It's designed to be assembled rapidly and effectively byautomated machinery – although it is also perfectly suited tomanual assembly. The hardware is compatible with profiles of all materials, aslong as they have a 16mm Eurogroove. So it's equallysuitable for windows made from timber, PVC or aluminium. For aluminium, we have a new clampable hinge. Now, theproblem of attaching fixing screws into the corner connectorson the profile ceases to be an issue. The hinges are completely concealed within the rebate. Thismeans nothing of them is visible when the sash is closed.Even on the interior, there are no hinge parts to be seen.As well as looking so much better, this offers an unbrokengasket line all around the sash – something which helpsprovide the best possible weather-sealing.In tilt mode, the opening across the top is 140mm, althoughyou are able to set this to a reduced distance of 80mm.The built-in anti-slam device means a sudden gust of winddoes not easily pull the window closed, as can often happenon tilt and turn units – especially on taller buildings.Another option is a night vent mode, ideal for round-theclockventilation. This enhancement is achieved with theaddition of just one extra frame component. The night vent also comes in a three-step version, offeringdifferent degrees of opening, enabling you to find theoptimum airflow level on a particular day or night. In turn mode, the hinges have built in turn restriction, so thesash cannot swing open or slam shut quickly if caught by agust of wind. This means less chance of damage toornaments, etc.Another option is a brake stay, located on the bottom of thesash. This allows you to open the sash and keep it held firmly

at any position from 15 to 90 degrees. Again, this protects the wall or anyother objects from damage, as well as being safer. When closing the window, anti-slam protection can beprovided by the Roto SoftClose device. This unique anduseful element can be retrofitted. It helps protect the entireinstallation from the damage that can occur if a window isslammed shut.Another device that can be added to a new window or fittedto a pre-existing one is the lifting mishandling device.Comprising two parts – one for the sash, the other for theframe – this item makes sure the sash cannot sag and is onthe correct level when you close it. Not only does this preventsash drop, it also means the locking points are not obstructedin any way and can move to their fullest extent. This in turn helps achieve a smooth, easy operation of thehandle.Ask your Roto dealer for more information on how Designo IIworks on your window profile.Four years of tweets! Roto has been on Twitter since May 2009.Follow us @RotoFrank.
