Theconfident answers of a godless modernity no longer work (if they ever did), and many non-Christianthinkers are now willing to admit as much. In fact, the Christian worldview is the only perspectivethat makes sense of our present modern predicament, and the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the onlysolution for the human person and human society, now as always. However, whereas we oncecould assume that non-Christians understood and even accepted basic items of the Christianworldview – such as the dignity of human life or the need for basic morality – that assumption no- 15 -
longer applies. Christian apologetics is the art of showing how the biblical worldview makes senseof a life and a world that are otherwise meaningless, aimless, and futile. In our modern world, thattruly is “Good News,” and where doors to evangelism seem to be closed, a loving and clear-headedexplanation of God’s truth about our world can open those doors once again.Session one: Who is afraid of Christian apologetics?Session two: Christian Worldview Basics: why our modern civilization would be impossible withoutthe God of the BibleSession three: Against Popular Scientism: how astronomy and biology reveal the glory of GodSession four: Popular Culture: how modern music reveals the human dilemma for which only Christis the answerSession five: The Problem of Suffering: responding to the hurts that words alone can never healBruce Boeckel grew up in a pastor’s family in the U.S., involved in youth ministryand church music.
