Frequently asked QuestionsQ. Why is a monotube shock better than a twin tube shock?A. The monotube design incorporates a larger diameter piston.A larger piston is more effective at controlling the oscillationsof your suspension. The monotube design also incorporates aless complex fluid flowpath. This allows the shock to run at alower oil temperature, again doing a better job at suspensioncontrol.Q. Does this mean that a twin tube shock is junk?A. Absolutely not. There are some very good twin tube shockson the market. In general, they do an adequate job atcontrolling your suspension in an environment that isanywhere less than extreme.Twin TubeMono TubeQ. Why do you use bearings in your mounts instead of bushings? I’ve heard thatbearings make a lot of noise…A. RideTech has spent a considerable amount of time finding a precision bearing that will staytight and smooth in order to avoid the noise and harshness normally associated with abearing mount. Cheap offshore bearings have all the sins you have heard about. Qualityprecision bearings offer a long life of smooth, quiet operation.B. A poly bushing will squeak, deteriorate, and generally fail in a loaded application such as a Shockwaveor a coilover, especially on a heavy car.C. A precision bearing adapts nicely to a wide range of misalignments that may be present on OEM shock mounts. Theywill eliminate any side loading issues and extend the life and the performance of the shock.Q. What is the advantage of your delrin swivel ball stud top mounts?A. Over time we have discovered that the simple stem bushing mount found onnearly all other shocks tends to induce a significant side load through the piston rod. This leads to seal wear, extra friction, and sometimes even breakage. These issues aremagnified on a “loaded” shock, such as a coil-over or a ShockWave, where the entireweight of the vehicle is supported through the stud mount. RideTech developed thedelrin swivel ball mount to eliminate this side loading. It has proven to be quiet, durable, reliable, and has eliminated any side load problems.Q. Are these shocks revalvable / rebuildable?A. Yes. We can revalve/rebuild them for you or we can sellyou the rebuild kit so you can rebuild them yourself.Q. How often should I rebuild my shocks?A. If you have a street car, or even a car that sees casual track time, you should see well over 100,000 miles from any of our monotubeshocks.B. If you have a true race car, rebuilding your shocks should be part of your annual maintenance checklist.Q. Why are your shocks more expensive than some other brands?A. Many shocks on the market today were designed over 40 years ago. Many are built offshore. Many shock manufacturers do not offer the level of customer service and tech support that isnecessary to properly resolve your suspension issues. RideTech shocks are a proven performancemonotube design. We offer dedicated support in the areas of application selection, tuning, andperformance advice based on years of our personal driving and racing experience. We are inregular communication with customers, race teams, and manufacturing entities to make sure westay on top of new performance developments.5ridetech.com2011 coil-over catalog revised 5-23-11.indd 6 5/24/2011 9:13:44 AM

Frequently asked QuestionsQ. How do I figure out the best spring rate? There are a few good ways to accomplish this:1. Why are your springs more expensive than some other brands?A. We use a high tensile, cold wound, American made spring from Hyperco. The Hyperco spring has proven to offer a more stable spring rate with nodegradation of height over time. It also uses a smaller diameter wire whichallows more travel before coil bind. Hyperco continues to lead the industry incoilspring research and technology…the perfect partner for RideTech!Hyperco SpringOther SpringsQ. All of my friend’s street rods have a 3” stroke shock with a 300lb spring on the back of their street rods. You recommend a 4” or 5” stroke shock with a 175-200lb spring. How can you get away with such aradical recommendation?A. Longer shock and lighter spring = better ride quality. We accomplish this by first offering a billet lower shock mount(pg 22) that will drop the bottom of the shock 1”compared to most other lower shock mounts. Also, because theRideTech shocks have a longer threaded portion of the body, they are capable of using a longer coilspring than someother brands of shocks. A longer spring allows us to use a softer spring without fear of bottoming out. The last part ofthe equation is the better fluid control of the monotube design shock. This complete package offers a vastly improvedride quality…one that is controlled and compliant, not harsh and choppy.812-482-293262011 coil-over catalog revised 5-23-11.indd 7 5/24/2011 9:13:48 AM

SHOCK DESIGNMonotubeMonotube construction- This is the most advanced method of shockdesigns. Fewer parts, efficient fluid path, and a larger piston diameteroptimizes both ride quality AND fade-free cornering performance!Non-Adjustable – This is the simplest version of themonotube. There are no external adjustments on this unit…all thevalving calibration is done at the factory according to the vehicleand driving style of its intended use. The RideTech NA monotubeis valved to optimize ride quality while offering a stable platformfor confident handling performance.Single Adjustable – This shock has a single adjustmentto change the rebound [extension] properties. By adjusting therebound setting, you can optimize the ride quality even more aswell as dial in more performance oriented handling characteristics.Electronic Adjustable – The RideTech Select Series has2 settings…soft for best ride quality, and firm for ultimatehandling and/or towing performance…that are selectableelectronically from inside the vehicle.Triple Adjustable – Going beyond the typical doubleadjustable units that have been popular, the TA shock has asingle rebound adjustment and a DUAL stage [high speed andlow speed] compression adjustment. It uses a remote reservoirthat is connected with a 30” braided line for easy installation ina variety of installation applications. The high speed adjustmentallows tuning for impact harshness…potholes, speed bumps, offroad use and other harsh road irregularities that mightinduce a high speed excursion of the piston rod. The low speedadjustment allows tuning of ride quality, as well as the generalcornering characteristics of typical road course and racetrack use.812-482-293282011 coil-over catalog revised 5-23-11.indd 9 5/24/2011 9:14:07 AM

Bolt-On4-LinkreplacesleafspringsMuscle cars have always been the backbone ofhotrodding... and now they are hotter than ever! The problem is nobody wants to put up with theride quality, handling, and braking technologyof 40 years ago. After driving a new Camaroor Mustang, the compromises of a 40-year-oldleafspring suspension just don’t cut it!There is a solution...The Bolt-on 4-link from Ridetech is a 4-link rearsuspension that will directly bolt into the oemleafspring mounts of your prized musclecar...no cutting, no fabrication, just 4 small tabsto weld to the axle for your upper bars. Theride height of your car is typically lowered byapproximately 2”. The ride quality is dramaticallyimproved over stock... instead of a wallowingsoft ride you’ll experience a crisp, controlledride quality that will inspire more confidence forperformance driving.55-57 Chevy64-70 Mustang67-69 Camaro62-67 NovaAirBar#Non Adj. COIL-OVERSHow to select spring rate:• The easy way to make sure you get the appropriate spring is to consult one of oursales/tech crew at 812.482.2932. They have experience with a wide variety of vehiclesand can make the correct recommendation.• For those who want the “nuts and bolts” of how to arrive at the correct spring rate, visit us at www.ridetech.com/springrate to engage our interactivespring rate calculator. You will be asked to enter some basic data about your car...vehicle weight, coil-over ride height, suspension type, etc. This interactive calculatorwill give you a spring rate that will be very close to optimum for your particular car.• For those who already have an idea of the length and rate of spring they need, thecharts below will allow you to make those selections. If you do not see the lengthand/or rate you are looking for, please call to see if we have added selections to thesepublished charts.7” Spring HeightPart Number Height Rate59070200 7” 20059070275 7” 27559070300 7” 30059070350 7” 35059070400 7” 40059070450 7” 45059070500 7” 50059070550 7” 55059070600 7” 60059070650 7” 65059070800 7” 8008” Spring HeightPart Number Height Rate59080150 8” 15059080200 8” 20059080225 8” 22559080250 8” 25059080275 8” 27559080300 8” 30059080325 8” 32559080350 8” 35059080375 8” 37559080400 8” 40059080450 8” 45059080475 8” 47559080500 8” 50059080525 8” 52559080550 8” 55059080575 8” 57559080600 8” 60059080650 8” 65059080800 8” 80010” Spring HeightPart Number Height Rate59100125 10” 12559100150 10” 15059100162 10” 16259100175 10” 17559100200 10” 20059100225 10” 22559100250 10” 25059100275 10” 27559100300 10” 30059100325 10” 32559100350 10” 35059100375 10” 37559100400 10” 40059100425 10” 42559100450 10” 45059100475 10” 47559100500 10” 50059100525 10” 5255910055010” 5505910057510” 57512” Spring HeightPart NumberHeight Rate5912012512” 1255912015012” 1505912016212” 1625912017512” 1755912018512” 1855912020012” 2005912022512” 2255912025012” 2505912027512” 2755912030012” 3005912032512” 3255912035012” 3505912037512” 37559120400 12” 40059120425 12” 42559120450 12” 450SPRINGS $75 EachCall for additional spring ratesNeed help choosing the right spring size and rate? For complete spring tutorial, visit RideTech.com812-482-2932202011 coil-over catalog revised 5-23-11.indd 21 5/24/2011 9:23:37 AM

UniversalWhat’s the difference between a triangulated 4-link and a parallel 4-link?Which is better? Both styles of 4-link accomplish the same thing... very simply, they hold the rear axle in the vehicle. The function of a 4-link is to keep the rear axle in its proper place under the vehicle. The bottom 2 links keep the axle in place front to back. The upper 2 links keep the axle from rotating, keeping the pinion angle as constant as possible. On a triangulated 4-link the uppers bars are placed at an angle to the lowers. When connected securely to the axle andthe frame they form a “triangle”. This is what keeps the rear axle centered under the vehicle. On a parallel style, a “panhard bar” must be used. It runs horizontally across the vehicle connecting the axle to the frame, allowing only up and down movement. Although there are several theories as to which is “better”, in the real world itcomes down to available space and preference.A parallel 4-ink fits most trucks better because the fuel tank is usually right in front of the axle, inboard of the frame. Aparallel is sometimes easier to install because the link bar frame mount is one piece instead of two... less time in placing andwelding the upper bar mounts. But a parallel 4 link requires a panhard bar which adds slightly to the expense and can useup valuable space needed for the exhaust system. A panhard bar will also induce a small amount of side to side movementduring suspension travel... not enough to feel but it may concern the customer who has an extremely tight tire to fenderclearance. With a parallel 4 -link you are locked into a sideframe link position... with a triangulated 4-link the lower linkscan be placed beside the frame or under the frame for clearance purposes.Parallel SystemsRidetech also offers the 4 -link rear suspension ina parallel style. Very similar in construction to thetri link... rubber bushings, heavy tubing, lasercutbrackets... but the parallel 4 link uses a panhard bar toposition the rear axle side to side.In many applications, such as late model trucks, thisconfiguration avoids interference between the upperbars and the oem gas tank. The parallel 4 link is alsoslightly easier for the casual installer to visualize andinstall because there are fewer bar mounts to dealwith... the frame brackets and axle brackets carry bothupper and lower bars. The parallel 4-Link is availableseparately, or with coil-overs.Triangulated SystemsTriangulated SystemsThe triangulated 4-Link is a tubular version of thetried and true rear suspension that GM has usedsince 1964. Welding and basic fabrication skills areneeded. As a result, the triangulated 4-Link is highlyadaptable to a variety of custom installations. The triangulated 4-Link is designed for theprofessional builder who wants a straightforward,no-compromise rear suspension.ParallelWeld-in 4- Link - Parallel (powder coated) 18988899 $550Weld-in 4 Link - Parallel (polished stainless) 18988999 $750TriangulatedWeld-in 4-Link - Tri link (powder coated) 18987999 $450Weld-in 4-Link - Tri link (polished stainless) 18988099 $65021ridetech.com2011 coil-over catalog revised 5-23-11.indd 22 5/24/2011 9:23:43 AM
