AccessoriesBelt GuardsA belt guard protects personnel from the moving driveparts. Both standard and totally enclosed type guardsare available.Shaft and Bearing Guards (SWSI)Solid sheet metal guards cover shaft and bearingsand come with extended lube lines to a commonpoint out either side of the guard. A guard spanningthe shaft between the bearings is also available toprovide easy access to bearings for lubrication andvibration monitoring.Belt, Bearing and Shaft GuardUnitary BaseA structural steel base provides common support tofan, motor and drive including guards. This style ofbase is designed for use without isolators and requiresadequate foundation integrity for proper operation.Vibration Isolation BasesHeavy structural base for fan, motor and drive isdesigned for use with spring or rubber-in-shear typeisolators. There are two typesof V-belt drives.• Adjustable Pitch or Variable Speed DrivesAn adjustable pitch drive offers easy adjustmentof speed. The motor pulley pitch can be adjustedwhen the fan is at rest which can offer speedvariation of about 10% from the design speed. Thisstyle of sheave can result in higher vibration so adjustablepitch drives are not recommended for useon motors over 10 HP or wherever low vibration isrequired.• Fixed Pitch or Constant Speed DrivesThis type of drive offers low cost and lowest vibrationlevels. Speed change can often be accomplishedby changing only one of the sheaves.Other Accessories Available• Variation in wheel diameter and width• Inlet boxes• Bearings RTD• Piezometer ring airflow measuring system• Consult factory for other accessoriesBearing UpgradesUnit roller or split pillow block, double row roller bearingsare available. Split pillow block roller bearings arenot available for fans with less than 1-7/16" diameterbearings and are not recommended for fans with lightloadings. Piezometer Ring (Airflow Measuring System)A piezometer ring is available on model BAE fans, aswell as other Twin City Fan housed and plenum fans,as part of an airflow measuring system, based onthe principle of a flow nozzle. The inlet cone of thefan is used as the flow nozzle. The flow can be calculatedby measuring the pressure drop through theinlet cone. No tubes or sensors are inserted in thehigh velocity airstream which could obstruct airflow.The system, consists of a piezometer ring mountedat the throat and a static pressure tap mounted onthe face of the inlet cone. A differential pressuretransducer and digital display can also be provided.The pressure drop is measured from the tap locatedon the face of the inlet cone to the piezometer ringin the throat. The inlet tap is connected to the highpressureside of the transducer and the piezometerring is connected to the low-pressure side.Based on Twin City Fan laboratory tests, the systemwas determined to be accurate within +/-5%.Refer to Twin City Fan Engineering SupplementES-105.FlowMeasurementSystemPiezometer RingMounted at Throatof Inlet ConeNOTE: Twin City Fan does not recommend placementof flow measuring probes inside the fan inlet cone inthe path of airflow. These devices create disturbancesand unpredictable performance losses. Twin CityFan will not be responsible for loss of performancedue to such devices.Performance Correction for Temperature & AltitudeThe performance tables in this catalog are basedon fans handling standard air at a density of 0.075pounds per cubic foot. This is equivalent to air at70°F at sea level (29.92" Hg barometric pressure).When specified performance is at a density differentthan standard, it must be converted to theequivalent standard conditions before the fan can beselected from the performance tables.
