OptionalConstructionSpark Resistant Construction<strong>Fan</strong> applications may involve the handlingof potentially explosive or flammable particles,fumes or vapors. Such applicationsrequire careful consideration by the systemdesigner to insure the safe handling of suchgases. <strong>Twin</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>Fan</strong> & <strong>Blower</strong> offers the followingclassifications of spark resistant construction perAMCA Standard 99-0401. It is the specifier or theuser’s responsibility to specify the type of spark resistantconstruction with full recognition of the potentialhazards and the degree of protection required.Type A All parts of the fan in contact with theairstream must be made of non-ferrousmaterial — usually aluminum and limited to250°F operation.Type B The fan shall have a non-ferrous wheel andnon-ferrous ring about the opening throughwhich the shaft passes — usually aluminumwheel and rub ring and limited to 250°Fconstruction.Type C The fan shall be so constructed that theshift of the wheel or shaft will not permittwo ferrous parts of the fan to rub or strike.This is accomplished with an aluminuminlet cone and rub ring. This construction islimited to 500°F. Construction to 800°F isavailable using a steel inlet cone with copper/bronzelining.Notes:1. Bearings shall be placed outside the airstream.Therefore, spark resistant construction is not availableon Arrangement 3 or 7.2. We offer AWS and ASME certified weldingprocedures and welding technicians to assure qualityconstruction when using special metals as well.Split HousingsAll fans are designed to permit wheel removalthrough the fan inlet. To suit installation as well astransportation requirements, <strong>Twin</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>Fan</strong> & <strong>Blower</strong>offers horizontal split, pie-shaped, as well as otherspecial split housing designs. Pie-shaped split housingsallow fan wheel and shaft removal without disconnectingductwork.Arrangement 8 fan with horizontal splithousing with bolted access doorSwingout ConstructionSwingout fans are ideal for applications requiringfrequent cleaning and inspection of the fan wheeland interior of the housing such as found in spraypainting booth exhaust.
