There is a podium when you enter where youcan grab a menu but don’t let this fool you it is not always a hostess station. If you are visiting for the first timeyou line up and place your order at the counter. The cashier will provide you with your drink cups at the timeyou order and give you an electronic thingamajig that flashes when your order is ready. Non-alcoholic drinksand condiments are self-serve and there is a bar where you can return to refill on beer, wine and mixed drinkswithout waiting in the food line again. When your thingamajig flashes you willpick up your food at the far end of the counter from an expediter.There is a very pleasant mix of spicy energy and laid-back comfort. Cajun islaid on thick in this amusingly decorated restaurant. The décor is reminiscentof Dr. Seuss meets Bubba the Cajun Alligator (the mascot for the restaurant).With mounted fish, a giant Swordfish, nets and a few outboard motors adornthe walls. High ceilings and brightly colored air vents of hot pinks, yellowsand greens and multi colored lights in the ceiling fans adds to the quirky andfun ambiance. Zydeco a modern style of Cajun music is piped in to set theoverall mood. Bubba B’s obviously put effort into achieving the appearance ofa dilapidated hole in the wall which adds to the fun. Children of all ages enjoythe colorful Mardi Gras beads that are in a sea chest where you order so graba few for the entire family to adorn themselves with. They also have crayonsand activity sheets to entertain the young ones and a children’s menu with allchoices $4.95 including drink.The menu brings swamp-shack standards offering gumbo, peel ‘n’ eatshrimp, whole fried catfish and frog legs. Grilled plates are also available forthose craving a healthier alternative. Everything on the menu is available fortakeout and can be picked up at the window on the East side of the building.The hamburgers ($4.95) on the menu are a must try. They are outstandinglydelicious and served on a fresh homemade bun. No, it doesn’t taste like chicken. The clean, whitemeat is both slightly creamier and sweeter than chicken, somewhatreminiscent of scallops but missing that saltwater pungency. At BubbaB’s it is cut into bite-size chunks, imagine popcorn gator and it is greatdipped in almost any condiment. So the next time you are at BubbaB’s try the fried gator it’s tasty. Anyways, it would eat you, if you weredumb enough to go swimming in a swamp. Po-Boys ($7.99), theSouthern incarnation of the sandwich, are fairly prominent on themenu. The version with fried catfish is substantial and delicious, andcomes with all the frills.
