DEAN’S MESSAGEsame way and we encourage our studentsto be active participants in their education,wherever it may lead them. To that end, weoffer programs that will help them developpractical skills they can use in the real-world.Associate DeansGreen is the new black.Sustainability issues have become a hottopic in recent years as public concern forthe health and well-being of the earth hascontinued to rise. This is great news for theplanet and for our Faculty, as we focus onmeeting urgent local and global challengessurrounding food safety, resource use andshared environmental resources.We do things a bit differently here. Ourstudents are not limited by the four wallsof a classroom or even by borders. Werecognize that not everyone learns in theAs well, our researchers are focused onfinding viable solutions to pressing globalcrises and are known worldwide for theirinnovation and leadership in areas suchas dairy, aquaculture and wine research.Whether it’s grape and wine yeast genomicsor animal welfare, LFS research advancesscientific knowledge while providingindustry with practical solutions.This annual report is a year in the life of theFaculty of Land and Food Systems. It toucheson just a few of the many accomplishmentswe have achieved during the past year.My hope is that, as you turn these pages,you will discover something new aboutthe important work we are doing here –something that inspires you to join us increating a more sustainable world.Murray B.
