Students developspecialized research skills by working w<strong>it</strong>h faculty throughout UBC onreal-world issues.The M<strong>as</strong>ter in <strong>Food</strong> <strong>and</strong> ResourceEconomics (Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Program)2009-10 saw the cohort <strong>of</strong> students from the MFRE program graduatein November 2010. This 12-month course-b<strong>as</strong>ed program attractedapplicants from around the world. All 19 students who started theprogram in September 2009 successfully completed <strong>it</strong>.Animal Science (MSc, PhD)This program <strong>of</strong>fers opportun<strong>it</strong>ies for advanced study <strong>and</strong> research inphysiology, behavior, welfare, genetics <strong>and</strong> management <strong>of</strong> livestock,poultry, fish, <strong>and</strong> wildlife species.<strong>Food</strong> Science (MSc, PhD <strong>and</strong> MFS)Opportun<strong>it</strong>y for advanced study <strong>and</strong> research in food chemistry <strong>and</strong>biochemistry, food process science, food microbiology, food safety<strong>and</strong> toxicology, food biotechnology, food qual<strong>it</strong>y evaluation <strong>and</strong>wine biotechnology.Human Nutr<strong>it</strong>ion (MSc, PhD)This program provides an opportun<strong>it</strong>y for advanced study <strong>and</strong> originalinvestigations in b<strong>as</strong>ic <strong>and</strong> applied human nutr<strong>it</strong>ion. The programis enriched through collaboration w<strong>it</strong>h colleagues in other graduateprograms including Animal Science, <strong>Food</strong> Science, Pediatrics, Anatomy& Cell Biology <strong>and</strong> Pharmaceutical Sciences.Integrated Studies <strong>of</strong> <strong>L<strong>and</strong></strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Food</strong> <strong>Systems</strong> (MSc, PhD)The objective <strong>of</strong> this program is to help students develop theknowledge b<strong>as</strong>e <strong>and</strong> integrative skills necessary to evaluate the cycle<strong>of</strong> food systems, production, processing <strong>and</strong> disposal; And to developsustainable solutions b<strong>as</strong>ed on agroecological, economic <strong>and</strong>social dimensions.Plant Science (MSc, PhD)The Plant Science Graduate Program <strong>of</strong>fers MSc <strong>and</strong> PhD degrees infundamental <strong>and</strong> applied topics related to plant production, plantprotection, biotechnology, plant physiology <strong>and</strong> biochemistry, <strong>and</strong>plant-environment interactions.Soil Science (MSc, PhD)A collaboration between the <strong>Faculty</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>L<strong>and</strong></strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Food</strong> <strong>Systems</strong><strong>and</strong> the <strong>Faculty</strong> <strong>of</strong> Forestry.
