C. ]**Deposition <strong>of</strong> Michael Heden.¥Montreal,}Michael Hedex, late <strong>of</strong> Fort Douglassto wit. 5 at Red River, in <strong>the</strong> territories <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>Hudson^s Bay Company, in North America, now at <strong>the</strong>city <strong>of</strong> Montreal, in <strong>the</strong> Province <strong>of</strong> Lower Canada,blacksmith, maketh oath, that he was engaged on <strong>the</strong>first day <strong>of</strong> June one thousand eight hundred andtwelve, to serve <strong>the</strong> Hudson's Bay Company in NorthAmerica, as a blacksmith, and in that year went toHudson's Bay, where he remained till <strong>the</strong> followingyear, when he went to <strong>the</strong> settlement formed by <strong>the</strong><strong>Earl</strong> <strong>of</strong> Selkirk at Red River aforesaid, and remained<strong>the</strong>re until <strong>the</strong> said settlement was broken up anddestroyed by <strong>the</strong> agents and servants <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> North-WestCompany, in <strong>the</strong> summer <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> year one thousandeight hundred and fifteen, and in <strong>the</strong> autumn <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>same year returned with new supplies, and ano<strong>the</strong>rbody <strong>of</strong> settlers tg Red River aforesaid.
