Alvis and Jewell Reeves62Solon Alvis Reeves was born August 20, 1903. His parents were Solon and Cora Reeves. DaisyJewell Reeves was born April 4, 1912. Her parents were Joe and Arizona Self.Alvis and Jewell were married March 19, 1932. Their first home was on the Reeves home-placeat Briscoe. Their farm was between Briscoe and Mobeetie, called Jowett Power Plant. They raisedcattle, feed and cotton. In later years they milked 25 cows by hand. They had a large milk barn andeach cow was chained to its own stall where it was fed and milked. The milk was separated in acream separator by hand. The young calves were raised on the skim milk and surplus was fed to thehogs. They sold the cream which furnished money for staples and other needs of the family. Theyraised their own pork, beef, chickens, vegetables and eggs. They had their own fruit trees.At this time, very few farms had water in the house. Three barrels were welded together andplaced by the side of the windmill on the hill north of the house. It furnished the water needs of thefamily. They had a wind charger on the hill that furnished lights and electricity for the radio. Theyattended the Methodist Church at Briscoe. Their first three children started to school in Briscoe.One of the highlights of entertainment of the year was at the end of school, a picnic for the entirecommunity, held in a beautiful shaded area on the Finsterwald place, with swimming, baseball,horseshoe throwing, and everyone catching up on all the news.In 1943 Alvis' health was failing and he had to move from the farm as the work was too much.They moved to Shamrock and he began working with Charlie Evans as a carpenter's helper. Mr.Evans taught him all phases of contracting and carpentering. When Mr. Evans' health failed he quit;Alvis continued until he passed away with a heart attack April 1968.Their children were: Oldest, Sara Margaret passed away at two years and three weeks. PatriciaJean, born October 23, 1934, married Jerome Gruber of Amarillo and have three children, Cynthia,Teresa and Kristi. They lived in Lubbock. Doris Ann, born December 24, 1935 married John Johnsonof Anaheim, California and have two children, Steve and Doug. They live in Anaheim, California.Alveeta Laverne, born October 29, 1937, married Norman Corbitt of Hollis, Oklahoma and have twochildren, Renee and Joel. They live in Arlington, Texas. Solon Alvis II, born November 29, 1939,married Dolores Beasley of Shamrock. They have three children, Solon Alvis III, Susan and James.They live in Dallas. Joy Nell, born February 2, 1942, married Harley Knutson of McLean. They havefour children, Mike, Brad, Scherri and Brandon. They live in Pampa. Larry Darwin, born December24 1944, married Sherry Payne, now divorced. They have one child, Alicia and live in Shamrock.Dick Ray Reeves, born January 6, 1947, married Jeanne Mayfield of Shamrock. They have nochildren and live in Houston. All the children attended Shamrock Schools and graduated. All but twofinished college.Jewell worked out of the home since the youngest was two years old.62 This family has no connection to the Reeves of this research, at this time48

His will was written in 1780; his exact date of death is not known, but it was sometimebefore said will was presented for probate 20 April 1781.
