Final negotiations and terms were completedwith both retailers this summer. Initial product launch occurred in August in Frenchretailer Monoprix in 290 stores and followed with a launch in France market’s leader,Carrefour, on October 10th in over 1,000 outlets. Carrefour, while a seeminglyunfamiliar name to Americans, is the world’s second largest retailer, trailing onlyWalmart in terms of revenue.Blue Diamond developed three new items for the French marketplace — Grillées SaléesAmandes (Roasted Salted Almonds), Smokehouse® Goût Fume Amandes (Smoked Almonds)and Grillées au Miel Amandes (Honey Roast Almonds) all in 150g cans.In September, Blue Diamond contracted with in-store activation company CB’a BrandEngine to help develop marketing and promotion support activities for the Frenchmarket. In late September, the marketing team held its first brand strategy session, todefine Blue Diamond’s brand proposition and Key Messaging for France. Additionally,they created a marketing and promotion plan to support efforts within the two retailaccounts with Monoprix and Carrefour. Activities will include in-store promotions suchas couponing and price promotions,advertising in retailer catalogues andcirculars, digital and social mediapresence with the development ofa France market website, Facebook,Google+ and Twitter pages, andpublic relations activities towards theblogosphere to support the launch ofBlue Diamond and new flavors. Blue Diamond Honors Veterans Day“Our veterans are part of an unbroken chain of men and women who have served our country with honor and distinction.On Veterans Day, we show them our deepest thanks.” Bob Carroll, business director of international retail, read fromPresident Barack Obama’s Veterans Day proclamation to welcome Blue Diamond employee veterans to the company’shonorary breakfast.The morning began at dawn on November 9 in front of the flagpoles at the Sacramento plant, where nearly 40 veteransgathered for reveille, followed by a complementary breakfast, to thank them for their service to the United States.
