600b series combinesCutting Edge Flex TechnologyChallenger’s DynaFlex cutter bar draper header providescapacity, control and adaptability. With a cutting width up to40 ft. (12.2 m.), the DynaFlex combines all the flexibility ofan auger-style flex header with the gentle and fluid materialshandling of a draper header.Smoother FeedingThe FDH draper belts feed tall and short crop instantly after it iscut. The conveying system allows the crop heads to face the samedirection, improving crop flow, feeding and threshing. So you getincreased combine efficiency, maximizing machine capacity and dailyharvested acreage. No Adapter NeededThe DynaFlex hooks directly to the combine feederhouse withoutany adaptor in between. This streamlined design reduces pumps andmotors to provide the lightest-weight header in the industry.header sizeheader weight25’ (7.6 m) 4,990 lbs. (2,241 kg)30’ (9.1 m) 5,770 lbs. (2,617 kg)35’ (10.6 m) 6,610 lbs. (2,998 kg)40’ (12.19 m) 7,350 lbs. (3,333 kg)Hydraulic PitchTwo hydraulic cylinders allow the header to tilt 12 degrees toadjust for the best cutting angle.Dual Sickle DriveThe dual mechanical SCH epicyclical sickle drive is balancedfor reduced vibration, higher sickle speed (1,200 strokes/min.)and up to a 400% increase in cutting torque.Rock ProtectionWith one-piece stainless steel interlocking belt guardsproviding an uninterrupted surface to prevent rocks and otherforeign objects from entering the combine, you enjoy smoothcrop flow and extended service life.Flexible CutterbarThe fully flexible cutterbar is controlled hydraulically fromthe cab, allowing up to 8 in. (203 mm) of vertical travel. Andwith the flip of a switch, the header can be converted to arigid unit.6

600b series combinesHigh Capacity Starts Up FrontNo matter what crop you harvest, or whattype of header(s) you use, one thing iscertain. The threshing potential of a highcapacitycombine is only as good as its abilityto feed material into the machine. That’s why Challenger designed a feedingsystem to enhance the performance of boththe header and the threshing system, allwhile keeping simplicity and reliability topof-mind.Fast, Easy HookupIndexing or engagement blocks on the top ofthe feeder house make header hookup quickand easy. Simply engage the blocks into theunderside of the header frame and raise thefeeder housing. A lower, over-center, two-pointheader latching system completes the processto tightly secure the header in place.A tractor-style PTO drive shaft completes theprocess with no need for shimming or specialalignment. You spend less time and effortchanging or moving headers and more timeharvesting the crop.SmarTrac ® Lateral TiltSystemThe standard SmarTrac Lateral Tilt system helpsyou harvest more grain by adjusting headertilt up to four degrees in either direction tofollow the contour of the ground. Electronicpotentiometer sensors detect changes in theterrain and automatically activate movement ofthe header to compensate.SmarTrac Lateral Tilt can also be operatedmanually from the hydrostatic control handlein the cab, ensuring maximum harvestingefficiency when you need it most. Either way,you can monitor the tilt position on theC2000 terminal.Smooth, Gentle FeedingThe feed conveyor on a Challenger combineis designed to keep crop material movingsmoothly from the header to the rotor. It starts with a wide-feed conveyor tomaximize intake — 44 in. (1,121 mm) onthe 660B and 55.4 in. (1,408 mm) on the670B and 680B. The lower drum and chainare also designed to float up and downaccording to crop intake, to ensure constantchain-to-crop contact and positive feeding.Designed for durability, the feederhouse is equipped with ajaw clutch that protects the system during excessiveconditions. Chain slats are even bolted on, rather thanriveted, for simpler replacement.A variable-speed header drive matches the corn head and feedchain speed to ground speed for greater productivity and reducedcrop loss. The conveyor drum effectively separates stones from the crop anddrives them into a stone trap for later dumping.Automatic Header ControlSave grain and improve productivity witha standard header control system thatautomatically senses and regulates the cutterbarand header height position. The system alsoincludes a feederhouse position control (returnto cut) that returns the feeder house to a presetposition after turns and unloading procedures.A single-point multi-coupler combines all electrical andhydraulic connections into one, allowing for faster, cleaner connections.SmarTrac control is integrated into the C2000 terminalto provide finger-tip fine-tuning for personalizedperformance and sensitivity.Responsive 3-in. (76-mm) lift cylinders on the 660B and 670B, and3.5-in. (89-mm) lift cylinders on the 680B provide the strength andcapacity to quickly lift heavy headers.9

CapacityWithout ComplexityFour-In-One EfficiencyPeruse competitive combine literature and you’llfind rotary combines with twin rotors, tine rotors andeven “bullet” rotors. But there’s only one AdvancedHarvesting System (AHS) rotor. Powered by itsown dedicated hydraulic pump(s) and motor, theAHS threshes the crop during multiple passes, gently allowing the grain to fall through the concaves.A multi-speed gearbox — three speeds on the680B and two speeds on the 660B and 670B —allows the operator to select the ultimate torque andspeed range, up to 1,040 rpm.The longest in the industry, the AHS rotor increasescrop throughput, allowing the combine to maximizeproductivity and - in many cases - operate athigher ground speeds. The 660B and 670B rotormeasures 27.5 in. (700 mm) across, while the 680Brotor spans a full 31.5 in. (800 mm) in diameter. The AHS performs four major functions via a singlerotor, improving crop quality, reducing losses andlowering operating costs, all without the extraaugers, drives, gears and discharge rotors found onother machines. The 18-in. (457-mm) diameterUniFlow feed conveyor drum, locatedbehind the feeder housing, providesone of the secrets to Challenger’sperformance. Opposing helical vaneshelp accelerate and even out the flow ofcrop material into the rotor, feeding it afull 360 degrees around the inlet augerflighting. This minimizes crop damage, and intake area wear.High-Capacity Crop IntakeUsing a patented intake design, the AHS gently gathers crop material from theUniFlow feed conveyor and distributes it 360 degrees around the threshingsystem for greater overall capacity, less crop damage and less wear at the intakearea. Even though the hardened flighting edges ensure a long, durable life, the intake flighting assembly can be replaced as a unit, if necessary, for loweroperating costs.10

600b series combinesIndustry’s Longest RotorMeasuring 140 in. (3,665 mm) long, the AHS rotor offersmore threshing and separating area than the competition formaximum efficiency, exceptional grain quality and completecrop control.Threshing AreaAs crop material leaves the intake flighting, it immediatelymakes contact with the extended main cylinder bars, whichbegin the threshing process by rubbing the crop multiple timesacross the concaves. Additional cylinder bars, mounted onthe rear portion of the rotor, complete the threshing process.Crop material moves more quickly through the concave area, resulting in greater capacity, minimized crop damage andreduced component wear.Cylinder bars can also be reversed, further increasing theirservice life and reducing repair and maintenance costs.Wraparound Concaves680B — Concaves on the 680B are broken into nine modulesaround the rotor, providing 2,721 sq. in. (1.75 m 2 of gentle, complete threshing.660B/670B — The 660B and 670B feature seven concavesections, providing a threshing area of up to 2,205 sq. in.(1.42 m 2 ).Adjustable ConcavesConcave-to-rasp bar clearance is electrically controlled on allmodels from the comfort of the cab to match different cropsand conditions. In addition, wide and narrow-spaced concaveconfigurations match the base combine type. In most cases,corn/soybean models can be converted for small grain bysimply adding blank-out or wire plates.Crop SeparationAs crop material passes through the separating area on theAHS, any remaining grain is gently and thoroughly removedwith the aid of three rows of hardened paddles. Rotor knivesbreak any crop bunches apart to prevent crop from ropingaround the rotor. While 21 knives are installed as standardequipment, rotor knives can be removed and up to 21 moreknives can be added.Hydrostatic Rotor DriveA hydrostatic drive system, along with an electronic controlsystem that regulates pump oil flow, maintains a selectedrotor speed regardless of changes in the engine rpm orfield conditions. Should a plug occur, the operator can alsoreverse the rotor without leaving the operator’s seat, using fullhydrostatic power.11

Clean Grain By DesignThe “Wind Tunnel” Name FitsOne look at the Challenger 600B Series cleaning system and you’llunderstand why it’s called the “Wind Tunnel.” From the fan to thespreader, the Challenger cleaning system is designed to quicklyand efficiently remove chaff, dirt and debris from high-yieldingcrops and move the grain quickly into the tank.Fan speed and air velocity are infinitely adjustable via two speedranges and a variable speed control in the cab. Thanks to a large,11-in. (279-mm) transverse cleaning fan on the 660B and 670Band a 13-in. (330 mm) transverse fan on the 680B, air startsseparating the chaff from the grain the second it leaves the gratesin the rotor.Cleaning Capacity To MatchClean grain is the only reason we built the Challenger cascadecleaning system. As crop material falls from the grain pan, it gentlycascades to the chaffer via a perforated cascade pan allowing precleaningof the material before reaching the chaffer. The air fromthe cleaning fan continues the cleaning process by floating theresidue rearward while grain falls through the chaffer openings tothe lower cleaning area. Here, final crop cleaning ensures that onlythe cleanest grain goes into the grain tank. Grain that doesn’t fallthrough the sieve goes into the returns system for processing.Electric sieve adjustment available on all modelsallows the operator to make adjustments from thecab seat or from the control center on the leftrear side.To complement the perforated cascade pan, the fan speedhas been increased. This speed increases the maximumair volume by 28% on the 660B and 670B and 14% onthe 680B.Sensors monitor grain loss in three locations across theshoe, and provide the operator with alerts and monitoringoptions via the C2000 terminal.12

600b series combinesABFoldable Bin ExtensionCDABLarge Grain Bin Capacity: The 660B comes with a300-bushel grain bin capacity, and the 680B comes with aneven heftier 350-bushel bin. With the 670B, you have theoption of either a 300- or 350-bushel bin.12-Inch Bin Fill Auger: A floating clean grain cross augeruses its full diameter to feed the high-capacity verticalelevator, and the larger 12-in. (300-mm) diameter bin fillauger allows for even faster material movement.CExclusive Two-Auger Unloading System: A 12-in.(300-mm) cross auger feeds the 15-in (375–m) highcapacityunloader auger. Unload the 300-bushel grain bin in75 seconds, or the 350-bushel grain bin in 88 seconds!EDEBin Full Sensor: Two electronic sensors positioned in thegrain bin alert the C2000 virtual terminal when the grain binis 75% full, then again at 100%. The grain bin can also bemonitored visually through a window behind the operator.Access Steps: Convenient steps make it easier and moresecure for service. This optional system allows the operator to foldthe bin extension and the bin fill auger electricallyfrom the cab with the touch of a switch.13

600b series combinesManage ResidueIn Your Own WayHave it your way when it comes to residue management. Choose froma versatile straw spreader that offers uniform distribution of both strawand chaff. Or add the rugged straw chopper that cuts and acceleratesresidue into a swath that matches or exceeds the width of the header. For the ultimate in residue management, add the hydraulically drivenchaff spreader, which spreads chaff and crop residue in a wide, uniform swath to match any tillage program. The chaff spreader canalso be moved to one of three positions for baling straw or to accessthe cleaning shoe. The two-disc chaff spreader can be used in conjunction with the strawspreader or chopper. It reduces the chaff buildup behind the combinefor easier tillage.Because it’s mounted on rails, you can easily move the chopper backward to allow the straw to fall and be ready for baling.Residue DischargeThe patented AHS direct discharge area utilizes six dischargepaddles to throw crop residue directly out of the machine or intothe straw chopper or straw spreader. This simple, but advanceddesign not only reduces machine complexity and horsepowerconsumption, it reduces further residue damage, allowing thestraw to be baled, if desired. For straw spreading without the need of chopping, choose the reliable two-disc straw spreader.A hydraulic-driven, two-disc chaff spreader can be easilyrotated to gain access to the cleaning area.14

600b series combinesDrive ComponentsRugged and DependableFour-Speed GearboxChallenger puts the power to the ground with a four-speedgearbox — instead of the three gears found on mostcompetitors — coupled to a hydrostatic drive system fora greater combination of speed and torque. Three gearscover the working range, while the fourth provides thespeeds you need for quick transport between fields.Optional Rear-Wheel AssistAn optional rear-wheel assist provides enough torque topower you through tough, muddy conditions. Yet it’s fastenough to keep you operating at full harvest capacity. Asingle-speed version is available on the 660B, while a twospeedversion is optional on the 680B. The 670B can beordered with a single-speed or two-speed axle (two-speedis mandatory with the larger bin option).Pressure/FlowCompensated HydraulicsConsidered state-of-the-art for a combine, Challenger’sclosed-center hydraulic system pumps oil only when itis needed. Similar to the system used in today’s highhorsepowertractors, the pressure/flow compensatedhydraulic system reduces fuel consumption and lowers oiltemperature, which helps increase component life.Rugged Final DrivesHeavy-duty S41 final drives with a 7.066:1 gear reductionratio transmits tractive force directly to the drive wheels forgreater versatility — including the ability to use straddlemountdual wheels — and the strength to carryheavy loads.Flotation TiresFor extra flotation in soft conditions, all models areavailable with Michelin ® MegaXbib ® low-pressureradial tires, which provide 19% more ground contactarea than comparable-sized tires. They reducecompaction, improve performance in muddy fields, enhance ride comfort and provide a longer service life— all without the added cost of a track undercarriage.Responsive SteeringAn adjustable steering axle is standard equipment onall 600B Series models. Moreover, Challenger uses twinsteering cylinders, instead of just one, along with a highcapacitypump for greater reliability and more responsivesteering. The heavy-duty rear axle, used on the 680B, isalso available as an option on the 670B.Drum BrakesDrum brakes, mounted outboard of the transmission onthe final drive input shafts, provide the stopping power youdemand for tight turns and uneven terrain.19
