BOARDERS’ BITZWelcome to “Boarders’ Bitz”, acolumn designed to keep parentsabreast of developments in Boarding.The families and staff of StuartDouglas took advantage of the beautiful weatherduring last weekend to enjoy a very pleasant Saturdayafternoon luncheon in the grounds of PLC. Thejumping castle proved to be a great success with thestudents and their younger siblings, and parentsenjoyed the opportunity to get together and makenew friends. Thank you to Mr and Mrs May for theirsuperb organisation.On the Saturday evening, the families of NewHouse met in the Derek Pigot Auditorium for theirannual House Dinner. The hall was decoratedbeautifully by the Year 12 girls and Mrs Aitken, andparents and students enjoyed a relaxed evening ofconversation. Thank you to to Mrs Aitken for herorganisation and thank you also to Christina Travers-Jones and Polly Hanigan for entertaining us sowonderfully during the evening.Year 12 boarders and parents are remindedthat during the upcoming exam period, there will bebus facilities provided by the <strong>School</strong> to transportstudents between the PLC and <strong>Wolaroi</strong> sites. Studentswill not be permitted to drive cars between the twosites.With the change of seasons, comes a changeof school uniform for our girl boarders. During theholiday break it would be appreciated if you couldundertake a complete check of your daughter’ssummer school uniform, to ensure that hem lengthsare at the appropriate level, and that you haveadequate summer school blouses available for Term 4.It has also been noted that many of our boyboarders have been surviving through Term 3 withonly one pair of school trousers, which are now in avery poor state of repair. Please ensure that yourson’s trousers have been checked before the return toschool, and purchase an additional pair, if required,from the <strong>School</strong> Shop, or Clothing Pool. Our Year 2class delighted the audience with their renditions of‘Dad and the Cat and the Tree’ and ‘Hugger Mugger’ ,violinist Anthony Solari gave a commandingperformance of ‘She’ll be coming round the mountain’,Barbara King-Christopher and Meghan Wheelhouseperformed the duologue ‘The Three Bears’, MaryMunro recited ‘The Adventures of Isabel’, pianist LukeMoxey entertained the audience at Interval, ChamberStrings and cellist Eileen McDonald-Sparks began thesecond half in style with their respective performancesof the ‘Praeludium from the Holberg Suite’ and ‘KolNidei’.In addition to the awards mentioned in previousweeks, Ailish Seedsman and Mary Munro received theSpeech and Drama Pointscore Trophies for 9 years and10 years respectively. We congratulate all ourperformers who participated in the Eisteddfod. Itremains as an excellent opportunity for our ensemblesand individuals to perform at a high level and todemonstrate to the wider community the quality ofmusic and other performing arts at the <strong>School</strong>.Our HSC Music students will undertake theirPerformance Examinations on Wednesday and Fridaythis week.
