Overall,as far as the School is concerned, theresults are very pleasing. The results have been analysed and an overview of theSchool’s NAPLAN results with some statistics andcomments to supplement parent reports and have placedon the School’s Home Page http://www.kws.nsw.edu.au/. Ihave also written a brief summary of the full report below.I trust that these reports will be useful to you as weendeavour to support Year 7 and 9 students overall literacyand numeracy development.Year 7: Overall, in Year 7, the cohort performed very well. They achieved above the National Mean in all areas, in bothLiteracy (Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar &Punctuation) and Numeracy (Number, Patterns & Algebra,Measurement & Data, Space and Geometry). Year 7 alsohad a lower Standard Deviation (SD) than the National SDindicating a tighter (less spread out) group of results fromthe mean. The School Average overall was in Band 8. InLiteracy, there was no one with a result in Band 4, withonly 2% in Band 5 and a pleasing 53% of the cohort in eitherBand 8 or Band 9. A pleasing 21% of the cohort achieved thehighest Band in Literacy. In Numeracy, the same trend isobserved. The Schools results are skewed to the top end.No one was in Band 4, 6% were in Band 5 and a pleasing 61%were in either Band 8 or 9. A pleasing 25% of studentsachieved the highest Band. Grouping Band 7, 8 and 9, anexceptional 84% of the cohort (compared to the State’s56%) achieved at a level above Band 7 in Numeracy.Year 9: Overall, like Year 7, the Year 9 cohort performedvery well. They achieved above the National Mean in allareas and a lower Standard Deviation (SD) than theNational SD as well. In Literacy, there was no one in Band 5and 7% in Band 6. A pleasing 44% of the cohort achievedeither Band 9 or Band 10. 12% of cohort achieved thehighest band and a pleasing 76% of the cohort (comparedto the State’s 49%) achieved at a level above Band 7 inliteracy. In Numeracy, the same trend is observed as inLiteracy with the School’s results skewed to the top end.No one was in Band 5, with 2% in Band 6 and a pleasing 48%of the cohort in either Band 9 or 10. An exceptional 25% ofstudents achieved Band 10. Like Year 7, the Year 9 cohortdemonstrated a strong performance in Numeracy, especially the results in the top Bands. The School Averagein Numeracy for Year 9 was in Band 9.Using this information, the School will endeavour toidentify trends and student achievement andunderperformance. For more information, please refer to the School’s homepage or contact me for further details.Best wishes,Yooie ChoiDirector of Learning
