State of the ShipyardIngalls Shipbuilding President Irwin F. Edenzon discusses currentprogress and future business for Ingalls Shipbuilding during theState of the Shipyard address sponsored by the Ingalls ManagementAssociation May 29 in the ARAMARK Cafeteria. Edenzon talked aboutfuture contracts and opportunities for the shipyard.Stop FraudFraudulent worker’s compensation claims are drain on paychecksThe increase in the FICA tax this year raised a lot of eyebrows. But there is another drain on paychecks that never shows up on apay stub – worker’s compensation fraud.Steve Pierce, manager, Risk Management, says that IngallsShipbuilding spends $80 million each year to pay worker’scompensation claims. To make matters worse, many of the claims are fraudulent. Severalemployees were recently terminated for workers’ compensation fraudand have been referred to law enforcement for prosecution.“Workers’ compensation fraud cheats you, the company and ourcustomers: the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard,” Pierce said.Ingalls investigates all claims for workers’ compensation benefits.Fraudulent workers’ compensation claims will be referred for criminalprosecution. As fraud increases, legitimate claims are treated with greatersuspicion.“Think about how theft has led to all the security packaging onelectronic devices,” Pierce said. “Fraud affects legitimate claimants in asimilar way. All claims are considered suspect and applicants have tojump through a lot more hoops.”Under the Longshore Act, any employee who knowingly andwillfully makes a false claim or statement to obtain workers’compensation benefits may be subject to criminal prosecution for afelony punishable by a fine of up to $10,000 and up to five years inprison.Any employee who has information regarding workers’compensation fraud may report the information to the Company’sOpen Line at 877-631-0020.July 8 deadline for graduate photosHigh school and college graduates in the Class of 2013 who are Ingalls Shipbuilding employees or the children or grandchildren of employees (active orretired) can submit their photos for the Graduate edition of The Anchor.
