DESCRIPTIONDow Corning 896 PanelFix forPanel Bonding is a one-part,neutral curing alkoxy siliconesealant specifically designed fornon-glass facade applications tostructurally bond two substratestogether. Neutral alkoxy siliconescure at room temperature onexposure to water vapor in the air, giving off a small amount ofalcohol (Methanol).GREEN STRENGTHDow Corning 896 PanelFix forPanel Bonding provides highdurability and immediate GreenStrength directly after application.Once applied and fully cured,Dow Corning 896 PanelFix forPanel Bonding is able to withstanddynamic and permanent loads. Please come back to ourDow Corning Technical ServiceExperts to calculate and define thecorrect joint dimension accordingto the final service life conditions. The property of instant GreenStrength can eliminate or decreasethe usage of tapes for pre-fixingdepending on the panel sizes. It istherefore able to enhanceproductivity, can save time andlabor cost. Dow Corning 896PanelFix for Panel Bondingprovide very good durability and issuperior to organic sealants due toits UV- and temperature resistance. The immediate Green Strength isabout 4-5 times higher thanstandard sealant which givesadditional safety during theproduction and assembly process.High humidity level and highertemperatures accelerate the cureprocess and lead to earlier skinformation.Green Strength is continuouslybuilding up during cure. Adhesionto the substrates is developed at thesame time as product cures.Although the strength build up isquite fast, the sealant will developits final properties once completelycured. It is recommended to installthe units only, once fully cured. Incase the units are installed beforecomplete cure, a suitable mountingaid such as specific tapes, may berequired. A further requisite for ahigh quality bonding applicationconsists in an appropriate jointdimension. Depending onparameters such as glass weight, window sizes, but also framematerials and temperatures, jointdimensions may vary. The jointthickness depends on the expectedmovement and the joint widthdepends on the applied dynamicand permanent loads. More specificinformation about bonding isavailable from our TechnicalService.. For each bonding projectseparately and depending oncustomer requirements,Dow Corning ConstructionIndustry Technical Service willprovide a tailor-made solution. For further information pleasecontact your local technical serviceengineer, who can help determiningthe required joint dimensions.COLORDow Corning 896 PanelFix forPanel Bonding is available inwhite color.HOW TO USEDow Corning 896 PanelFix forPanel Bonding is a ready to usesilicone sealant. It providesexcellent strength and adheres to awide range of most common PanelBonding materials such as mineralsubstrates, metal (anodizedaluminum, stainless steel, etc.) andglass.Dow Corning 896 PanelFix forPanel Bonding can be used formanual applications using a manualgun for cartridges or sausages. It isalso suitable for semi-or even fullyautomated robotized applications.Due to its low stringing , and HighGreen Strength, Dow Corning 896PanelFix for Panel Bondingprovides good ease of use, workability and a highercompressive strength in an uncuredstate. There is far less squeeze out asseen with standard sealants. As it is a moisture curing sealant, the reaction starts at the surfaceexposed to moisture and cures indepth. The deeper the joint is, thelonger it takes the sealant to curecompletely. The initial GreenStrength takes over initial loads, but to provide full strength andmovement capability with elasticrecovery it needs to be fully cured.Moisture has to migrate further tothe already cured skin and as thisskin becomes thicker, the reactionslows further down. Thecombination of initial GreenStrength overlapping with thestrength build up during curemakes the Dow Corning 896PanelFix for Panel Bondingsuperior versus standard one partand silicone sealants. As 1-part silicones need moistureto cure, the joint depth is limitedto 14-15 mm as a maximum.Joints deeper than that will notcompletely cure. The deeper thejoint is, the longer it takes to fullycure.CleaningSubstrates must be clean prior toapplication to ensure adhesiondurability. All surfaces must beclean from contaminants andresidues such as grease, oil, dust, water, frost, surface dirt, oldsealants or glazing compounds andprotective coatings. Solvent shouldbe wiped on and off with clean, oilandlint-free cloths. Metal, glassand plastic surfaces should becleaned by solvent procedures.Solvent should be wiped on and offwith clean, oil- and lint-free cloths.Dow Corning ® R40 Cleaner isrecommended for cleaning ofmetallic and glass surfaces. minute. Please contact yourDow Corning Technical ServiceExpert for more information.PrimingFor each project separately, it isessential that adhesion to allconcerned surfaces should be testedbefore application. If adhesionrequires priming, a primer such asDow Corning ® 1200 OS is ingeneral recommended for metalsubstrates and Dow Corning ®Primer P for mineral substrates. When priming, the ventilation timeat room temperature is indicated onthe Primer label.Priming should be done within 4hours after cleaning. If there is agreater time delay, cleaningprocess has to be repeated again.Project specific priming regulationneeds to be discussed and approvedby Dow Corning TechnicalDepartment. Please contact yourlocal Dow Corning TechnicalService Engineer for furtherassistance.Panel Bonding ApplicationDow Corning 896 PanelFix forPanel Bonding offers goodadhesion to most commonsubstrates in the non-glass façadeapplication such as mineralsubstrates, metal (e.g. anodizedaluminum, stainless steel, etc.).Because of the variety of differentsubstrates, compositions andsuppliers, we strongly recommendto make a project specific test. Please contact Dow CorningTechnical Laboratory Services toassist with this tests to prove longtermadhesion and durability. In acured state, Dow Corning 896PanelFix for Panel Bonding iscompatible with most commonlyused facade components. It iscompatible to Dow Corning ®Neutral curing Constructionsealants. It is important when selectingcomponents within Panel BondingApplication to ensure adhesion andcompatibility by carrying outappropriate tests. Our Dow CorningLaboratory Service is ready toassist you.As a one-part neutral curingsystem, moisture vapor/humidity isrequired for cure. Substrates haveto be put together within the abovestated tack free time before skinformation.Masking And ToolingAreas adjacent to joints may bemasked to ensure a neat sealantline. Do not allow masking tape totouch clean surfaces to which thesilicone sealant is to adhere.Tooling should be completed inone continuous stroke before skinbuilding. Masking tape should beremoved immediately after tooling.MAINTENANCENo maintenance is needed oncesealant has been properly appliedand cured. If glass units need to bereplaced or sealant becomesdamaged, sealant joint has to be cutback as much as possible.Dow Corning 896 PanelFix forPanel Bonding will adhere to curedsilicone sealant which exhibits aclean knife-cut or abraded surface.EQUIPMENT CLEANINGOnce sealant is used in conjunctionwith a dispensing equipment, dispensing system needs to be airtightand moisture tight asotherwise sealant will start to cureover time. Normally there is nospecific cleaning required as it is aone-part silicone sealant. Materialwhich stays uncured in the nozzle, will start to cure. To avoid that, nozzle should be covered with amoisture tight material such asmetal.TECHNICAL SERVICESYour Dow Corning contactdetails (e-mails):Technical inquiries:eutech.info@dowcorning.comMarketing:construction.marketing@dowcorning.comQuality Bond:qualitybond@dowcorning.comEHS inquiries:europe.ehs@dowcorning.comReach inquiries:reachsupport@dowcorning.comYour Technical Service contactdetails (phone):Toll Free Numbers:From Belgium 0800 80 522From France 0805 54 04 39From Germany 0800 52 50 258From Italy 800 92 83 30From Spain 900 813161From United Kingdom0800 9172 071All other countries:For English +32 64 51 11 59For French +32 64 51 11 59For German +49 611 237503For Italian +32 64 51 11 73For Spanish +32 64 51 11 66For Russian +7 495 725 43 19Fax number from allcountries: +32 64 88 86 86HANDLINGPRECAUTIONSPRODUCT SAFETYINFORMATION REQUIREDFOR SAFE USE IS NOTINCLUDED IN THISDOCUMENT.
