Indigent Persons, ContinuedDefinitionsTransient or HomelessA transient person may be someone who temporarily resides in themunicipality <strong>and</strong> has temporary accommodations. This person may bereceiving assistance from another municipality or may have made anapplication for assistance or, is in receipt <strong>of</strong> assistance from <strong>Peel</strong>.A homeless person may be someone who is in <strong>Peel</strong>, but who does nothave any accommodations. This person may be receiving assistancefrom another municipality or may have made an application or is inreceipt <strong>of</strong> assistance from <strong>Peel</strong>.Deceased is an unclaimed bodyAn unclaimed body is a person who's identity is known (e.g. they werea patient in a hospital), but there may be no next <strong>of</strong> kin, friend orindividual to make funeral arrangements on behalf <strong>of</strong> the deceased.Deceased is an unidentified person (Jane or John Doe)An unidentified person may be a person with no known name e.g. astillborn child <strong>and</strong> there is no next <strong>of</strong> kin or friend willing to takeresponsibility <strong>of</strong> the funeral arrangements for the deceased.Consent toCremate<strong>Cremations</strong> for a transient, homeless, unclaimed or unidentifiedperson is not allowed by law if there is no executor or immediatefamily member to give consent. It is the <strong>Funeral</strong> Director’sresponsibility to investigate <strong>and</strong> enforce these regulations.14
