Direct Disposition - <strong>Burial</strong><strong>Policy</strong>When the deceased does not have a next <strong>of</strong> kin or friend thedeceased may be transported directly to the cemetery if the deceasedis only to be interred (buried) without embalming (or minimal whererequired by law).If there is no viewing required at the funeral home or graveside directdisposition <strong>of</strong> the deceased may be an option. In these casesembalming is not required if the body is buried within 48 hours.A licensed Transfer Service is able to assist in these types <strong>of</strong> requests.TransferServicesProvidedThe Transfer Service will provide the following:• The removal <strong>of</strong> the deceased from the place <strong>of</strong> death• The placement <strong>of</strong> the deceased in a casket or simple containerused for burial• The delivery <strong>of</strong> the deceased to the cemetery• The filing <strong>of</strong> necessary documentation• The <strong>Funeral</strong> Director’s fee• Transportation, <strong>and</strong>• Care <strong>of</strong> the deceased (minimal embalming if required).CasketIn the case <strong>of</strong> a direct disposition for burial where there is no viewingor graveside service a simple casket or container required for burial isused.<strong>Burial</strong>When the deceased is to be interred the following will be included inthe costs for a burial:• Opening <strong>and</strong> closing <strong>of</strong> cemetery plot• Grave marker, <strong>and</strong>• Provincial Licensing FeeBy law a vault or crypt may be required in circumstances where thedeceased had an infectious disease, or where the by-law requires thecasket/cremated remains must be placed in a vault or crypt.Note: A vault or crypt would be an additional charge.32
