Assoon as you make amistake, they capitalizeand put up 6points in a hurry.”The Cardinalspassed just five times in the game butcompleted 3 for 27 yards and a TD.“We were moving the ball,” Slatersaid. “As long as you are moving the ball,why put it up in the air?”In the first quarter, QB Mitch Maycocktossed a 4th-down TD pass that requiredsome fortunate bounces.Maple Grove DB Aaron Germain actuallyintercepted the pass but as he camedown, the ball rocketed off the shoulderpad of a Randolph player and landed inthe lap of RandolphTE Nate Beaver,who was laying flaton his back in theend zone.“We got a littlelucky with that,”Slater said. “I feltthat maybe it wasour night.”Slater says thathe did not relaxuntil JordanDowiasz ran 55yards for a TD with7:49 left in the 4thquarter.“I started to feela little more confidantthat we werePhoto by Tim FrankRandolph senior Jordan Dowiasz.going to put thisone away,” Slatersaid. “Three scoresin seven minutes isa tough thing.”Dowiasz finished the night with 214yards on 22 carries. Hethrows a prettynice football and is a threat to throw theball.”When area fans think of Randolph,they think of “Ground and Pound” football.But, a quick look at the stats showsthat Maycock (6-0, 185) has been veryeffictive this season.The junior has completed 37 of 71passes for 653 yards and 10 TDs.“He’s done very well,” Slater said.“He’s not a fantastic runner but he knowsthe offense and he can pick his spots tothrow. He’s had agood season.”Maycock’s olderbrother Mike startedat QB whenRandolph won theNYS championshipin 2009.“These kids arestarting to look likethe 2009 team,”Slater said. “Theyare starting to getsome of the samecharacteristics ofthe 2005 and the2009 teams.
