<strong>Crowd</strong> <strong>Control</strong> <strong>Crowd</strong> <strong>Control</strong> Weapons in the West BankThe VENOM System for Firing Salvos <strong>of</strong> Tear-Gas Grenades(Launcher, Malkosh)Manufactured and distributed by Combined Systems, Inc. 23 This system, whichis mounted on a jeep, includes three 10-barrel groupings. The system launchessalvos <strong>of</strong> seven small 40mm-caliber aluminum canisters, each approximately2.5 cm long, to a distance <strong>of</strong> up to about 100 meters. The system is capable <strong>of</strong>launching several salvos in succession, creating a thick cloud <strong>of</strong> gas that lastsfrom one to several minutes (depending on wind conditions) and covers a widearea. The launcher is operated from within the jeep, through a control panel.The VENOM System was introduced into action just before September 2011.This system replaced a similar system called Malkosh [“last rain <strong>of</strong> the season”in Hebrew]. Malkosh was installed on jeep ro<strong>of</strong>s and operated via an electricswitch suspended from it, so that a soldier had to be outside the jeep for thesystem to be activated. The Malkosh system could fire a single salvo <strong>of</strong> 64 plastictear-gas grenades and was in use from 2008 to 2010.A salvo <strong>of</strong> tear-gas canisters launched from a Venom equipped jeep.
