A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENTDear Down<strong>to</strong>wn S<strong>take</strong>holder:It is my pleasure <strong>to</strong> present <strong>to</strong> you the Pittsburgh Down<strong>to</strong>wn Partnership’s <strong>2012</strong> <strong>Annual</strong> <strong>Report</strong>. The past year hasbeen an exciting and busy one for <strong>our</strong> organization, as well as for Down<strong>to</strong>wn Pittsburgh. We are enthused <strong>to</strong> sharewith you the progress, projects and initiatives that are assisting in the continued growth and development of <strong>our</strong> City’smost important neighborhood.Speaking of progress, <strong>2012</strong> saw a dramatic increase in <strong>our</strong> volunteer program, which further demonstratesPittsburghers’ love and commitment for <strong>our</strong> Down<strong>to</strong>wn. Our Paris <strong>to</strong> Pittsburgh façade program celebrated animportant miles<strong>to</strong>ne this year, approving <strong>our</strong> 40th grant. This program has made a significant impact, improvingbuildings and enlivening sidewalks, while building stronger, more vibrant business districts throughout Down<strong>to</strong>wn. Weended the year with a new holiday destination, welcoming the Peoples Gas Holiday Market TM , a European-style villagefilled with international merchants and lively entertainment, <strong>to</strong> Market Square.We continued <strong>to</strong> be strong advocates, working with a diverse group of s<strong>take</strong>holders <strong>to</strong> address challenges andcapitalize on opportunities. Retail attraction was an important <strong>to</strong>pic throughout the year and culminated with MayorRavenstahl and the Urban Redevelopment Authority’s release of the Down<strong>to</strong>wn Action Strategy, designed <strong>to</strong> improvetargeted corridors with investment and new business attraction.Research has become a keys<strong>to</strong>ne of the work the PDP is known for and providing pertinent and timely information<strong>to</strong> developers, potential businesses and the media was greatly enhanced by the publication of the first State ofDown<strong>to</strong>wn Pittsburgh report. This compendium of vital statistics, facts and research was extremely well received andcomplements <strong>our</strong> Down<strong>to</strong>wn Investment Map and other key economic tracking and research <strong>to</strong>ols.We are thrilled with the energy and vibrancy that Down<strong>to</strong>wn is experiencing and are looking forward <strong>to</strong> workingwith <strong>our</strong> local and state elected officials, business leaders and residents <strong>to</strong> create new, inventive programming, whilethinking creatively about how <strong>to</strong> address the unique issues facing Down<strong>to</strong>wn.
