Dear Friends,
Fall 2005 found Sacred Heart-Griffin students generously responding to the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
The students collected over a thousand dollars to send to New Orleans along with emergency supplies and
clothing. When the tornadoes struck Springfield in March, SHG students were among those helping to clean up
devastated neighborhoods and giving donations to the local Red Cross.
Generosity is a hallmark of the Sacred Heart-Griffin community of faith. As you read through this report, you
will witness the incredible generosity of so many who contribute to SHG in various ways. Sacred Heart-Griffin
couldn’t exist without the support we receive from our alumni, parents-present and past-and friends.
Each person listed in this report is an important part of SHG.
Along with the tragedies in our country and city, ingrained in our memory is February 23, the day we came to
school and heard the sad news that Justin Buscher, one of our sophomores, had died in an automobile accident
the night before. Through our community of faith we supported one another. We shared our love and support
with the Buscher family, and our faith was strengthened by their deep faith and concern for us. Our belief that
we are made to live with God forever in heaven was a great consolation during this difficult time.
Academic excellence and excellence in all areas abounded at Sacred Heart-Griffin this year. Among our many
achievements, I note the following two: For the first time in SHG’s history the Science Olympiad team won a
third place trophy, and the football team brought home a State Championship.
A milestone in Sacred Heart-Griffin’s history is the departure of Father Pisors after 44 years of service to
Griffin High School and Sacred Heart-Griffin High School. Having served the Catholic community in providing
secondary education for 76 years, the Viatorians will no longer have a presence at SHG. We treasure the
partnership we have shared with the Clerics of St. Viator.
We also treasure the partnership we have with all of you who so generously support Sacred Heart-Griffin High
School. In the name of the faculty, staff and students of SHG, thank you and God bless you!
Sincerely,
Sister Katherine O’Connor, O.P.
President
