The collection service area will expand beyond the municipalities of Tofino andUcluelet to include households in Millstream and Port Albion.Implementation by:ACRDStart Up: 2008Staffing Implications:Included under West Coast Recycling ProgramCosts:$241,000 per year (based on $130 per household)7.5.2 ICI Garbage CollectionAs is currently the practice, all garbage and recycling collection services provided to the ICI andmulti-family sector would continue to be handled by a privately contracted collection service or selfhauledby the generator. There are no cost or staff implications for the ACRD for the provision ofICI garbage collection services.7.5.3 Bamfield Garbage CollectionThe waste management infrastructure in Bamfield will consist of two collection points:1. A <strong>Waste</strong> <strong>Management</strong> Centre (to be constructed) on the east side of Bamfield which will actas a recycling depot, bulky item drop-off depot, reuse centre and solid waste transfer station.2. A <strong>Waste</strong> Collection Area on the West Side Wharf where garbage and recycling containers willbe available for use by residents, local businesses and visitors.The operation of the <strong>Waste</strong> <strong>Management</strong> Centre will be contracted out. <strong>Waste</strong> collected at theCentre will be transferred to the <strong>Alberni</strong> Valley Landfill. Recyclable waste will be hauled to arecycling processor on Vancouver Island or to the recycling area of the <strong>Alberni</strong> Landfill forsubsequent transfer to a recycling processor.MV Lady Rose will transport garbage collected on the West Side Wharf to Port <strong>Alberni</strong> for disposalat the <strong>Alberni</strong> Valley Landfill. This transfer operation will continue until a less expensive/moreefficient means of transfer can be identified. A contractor will transfer recyclables collected on theWest Side Wharf to the <strong>Waste</strong> <strong>Management</strong> Centre.(60717-DRF-RPT-07 Oct 04.doc) 7-12
