7. PRIVATE PILOT LICENCE – AEROPLANE & HELICOPTER7.1. ELIGIBILITY7.1.1. SPL: Applicant shall hold a valid Student Pilot Licence.7.1.2. AGE: Applicant shall not be less than 17 years of age.7.1.3. MEDICAL: Applicant shall hold at least a Class 2 MedicalCertificate.7.1.4. FRTOL: FRTOL shall have been endorsed on the Student PilotLicence.7.2. FLYING TRAINING ORGANIZATION (FTO)7.2.1. The Flying Organization conducting training for the issue of aPrivate Pilot Licence shall hold a valid approval from CAA as aFlying Training Organization (FTO).7.3. ICAO GUIDANCE7.3.1. The ICAO Training Manual (Doc 7192) Part B-5 may be usedas additional guidance material for a course of training for thePrivate Pilot Licence.7.4. AERONAUTICAL KNOWLEDGE (AEROPLANE): The applicantshall have demonstrated a level of knowledge appropriate to theprivileges granted to the holder of a private pilot Licence-aeroplane inat least the following subjects:7.5. AIR LAW7.5.1. Rules and regulations relevant to the holder of a Private PilotLicence – Aeroplane; rules of the air; appropriate air trafficservices practices and procedures;7.5.2. AIRCRAFT GENERAL KNOWLEDGE7.5.3. Principles of operation of Aeroplane power plants, systems andinstruments;7.5.3.1. Operating limitations of Airplanes and power plants;relevant operational information from the flightmanual or other appropriate document;7.5.4. FLIGHT PERFORMANCE AND PLANNING7.5.4.1. Effects of loading and mass distribution on flightcharacteristics; mass and balance calculations;7.5.4.2. Use and practical application of take-off, landing andother performance data;7.5.4.3. Pre-flight and en-route flight planning appropriate toprivate operations under VFR; preparation and filingof air traffic services flight plan; appropriate air trafficservices procedures; position reporting procedures;altimeter setting procedures; operations in areas ofhigh density traffic;Page 11 of 11
