Words of WelcomeDear Colleagues,32 nd International Congress of the ISBT,Cancun, Mexico, July 7 - 12, 2012The Mexican professional community of blood transfusionrepresented by the “Asociación Mexicana de Medicina TransfusionalAC” – AMMTAC -, (Mexican Association of TransfusionMedicine), is pleased to host the 32 nd Internationalcongress of the International Society of Blood Transfusion(ISBT) in 2012. Hosting the congress is a great honor andan excellent opportunity to show the efforts and the developmentof transfusion medicine in our country, as well as thegreat growth in tourism, cultural and technological areas.In Mexico there are more than 350 blood banks and over1,000 hospitals with transfusion services serving a populationof over 110,000,000. More than one million blooddonations are collected per year. We expect that many ofour nationals working within transfusión medicine will attendthe CongressTransfusion medicine topics from donor to patient will beincluded in the scientific programme. Those who are interestedin research, new developments and changing insightswill not be disappointed. Those who are new to the fieldwill find an ISBT Academy programme which will enablethem to quickly learn about many aspects of transfusiónmedicine. As health workers, the Congress, gives us theopportunity to achieve the highest standards in the interestsand care of patients because it allows the exchange of ideasfrom every corner of the world.Delegates will have the chance to refresh and develop relationshipswith Latin America. Our health problems are similarto those in the countries of Europe, Africa and Asia andthe congress is an unique opportunity to share experiencesand increase knowledge.As you know, my country has hosted for many years importantinternational meetings, due to the fact that we haveworld class venues, together with the worldwide-knownhospitality of Mexicans. Also we would like to share withyou our rich culture; all the way from our prehispanic constructionsto the modern view of our cities. We know that wewill fulfill the requirements as the host country for the 32 ndInternational congress of the ISBT. Participants will surelyexperience the beauty and variety of our country, added tothe scientific feast. We will be honored to receive all ourInternational Society of Blood Transfusion colleagues, asguests in this great country of ours.
