<strong>The</strong> <strong>Walnut</strong>’s Longest Run…It’s a career, not a show.It is with great pleasure that we recognize ourController, Len Karabell, for his 40th anniversarywith the <strong>Walnut</strong> <strong>Street</strong> <strong>The</strong>atre.Len jokingly defines his position to our actors andstaff as “I’m the one who signs your checks.” With hisextraordinary dedication and service to the <strong>Walnut</strong>, heis much more than a signature. Len began at the theatrein 1972 before it became the self-producing non-profitthat we have today. He has seen many changes over thepast four decades, including technological advances.When Len began at the <strong>Walnut</strong>, he entered everyfinancial report manually.With a passion for numbers, and a love of sports, Len hadchildhood dreams of becoming a baseball statisticianand an announcer at games. Recently, he had the oncein-a-lifetimeopportunity to throw out the first pitch ata Phillies game in celebration of his achievement withthe theatre. This was a truly memorable moment.Beyond his title of Controller, Len is a loving husbandLen Karabell celebrates 40 years at the <strong>Walnut</strong>.to Ginny and father of two. His son Jacob appearedas a munchkin in our 1995 production of <strong>The</strong> Wizard of Oz, which is undoubtedly Len’s favorite<strong>Walnut</strong> production. Jacob was recently married and is currently a lawyer in Washington, D.C.Len’s daughter Laura spent a few summers assisting administratively at the <strong>Walnut</strong>. She is now ateacher in the Philadelphia area. An extremely proud family man, Len’s office is decorated withwonderful photographs of his entire family.In his warm, welcoming manner, Len makes a lasting impression on everyone who enters the<strong>Walnut</strong>.
