Breakfast Seminar Shenzhen
Participants at the GCC breakfast seminar at the Crowne Plaza
Shenzhen received insights from veteran Mr. Armin Rosendahl
of OBC Service on latest trends and developments in the logistics
sector. Cost reduction and improving customer satisfaction are key
issues in international trade. Careful strategic logistical planning
can help to minimise both distribution costs and delivery time.
The speaker provided an overview of the current situation of the
logistic sector in China and gave detailed insights into the role
of logistics companies for successful supply chain management.
Based on his over 20 years of industry experience, Mr. Rosendahl
further gave an outlook on future developments and challenges
for the sector. Most notably, increased internationalisation of trade
and sourcing, as well as enhanced data capturing and transfer
capabilities will
create opportunities,
while security
concerns and green
initiatives will
continue to impact
the industry.

The Crisis and
Chinese Banks
Business Seminar Zhuhai
Whereas business seminars usually take place in conference rooms,
the GCC l South China invited participants to a renovated historic
Beishan Hall. In the setting of the 200 year old structure, surrounded
by art work, speaker Susanne Zhang Pongratz of Raiffeisen Zentralbank
(RZB) shared her insights on the current impact of the financial
crisis and provided an overall overview of the Chinese banking sector.
With 14 years experience in the China banking sector the speaker
was able to provide the attendees a wealth of knowledge on specialties
of the Chinese financial system. Compared to many Western
banks, Chinese banks have weathered the financial crisis very well
and are now at the centre of the government’s stimulus plan having
lent RMB 8tr by the end of August 2009. This represents an increase
of 164% compared to the same period in 2008. However, the massive
influx of cash is also a concern to the central government.
