Expo Provides Ideal Opportunity to Sell Image Globally Construction Ends
on 48 Pavilions
The Shanghai 2010 World Expo would provide
a rare opportunity to build a “Shanghai
image” and sell the city to the world, top
global corporate executives said yesterday at
the 21 st International Business Leaders’ Advisory
Council.

Visits Expo Bureau
A seven-member German media group
visited the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo
Coordination on 31st October. During the
meeting with officials of the Bureau’s Communication
and Promotion Department,
the group studied many details about Expo
2010’s environment protection ideas and
plans. They also learned about the post-Expo
utilisation of the site and measures of attracting
Expo visitors. After being informed
of the application process of journalists for
covering the Expo, some media chiefs said
that they will send journalists to Shanghai to
report Expo 2010 next year.
Members of the delegation came from German
media organisations including Rheinische
Post and Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen
(ZDF). The delegation was invited by the
Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination
and the Information Office of Shanghai
Municipality.

with the Shanghai mayor next year will
take place on 10 th October, during the World
Expo. The theme of the 2010 event is “To

China Pavilion Seeks 200

The search is on for two hundred outstanding
clips to be condensed into films and
played on 15 screens in the China Pavilion.
Themed “Same Time”, the films will showcase
the work and life of people living in
different parts of China at the same specific
moment.
Entries should last at least 30 seconds in a
documentary style and with upbeat tune.
The search will conclude on 4th February
2010 and works can be uploaded to

http://2010.joy.cn/sametime and
http://expo.tudou.com/sametime. Four
gold prize winners will be awarded about
RMB 10,000 each and others whose works
are selected will win other prizes.
On 2 nd November, Hong Hao, director
of the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo
Coordination announced the World Expo
Shanghai organiser finished construction
on the 11 joint and 37 rented pavilions
for the 2010 event. They will house more
than 180 participant countries and international
organisations.
Construction on the rest five rented pavilions
will be finished by the end of the
year, which was delayed because the five
participants - Peru, Argentina, Colombia,
Croatia and South Africa – were late in
signing their participation contracts.
The organiser said that construction is in
step with their deadline to finish all the
pavilions built by the organiser by the
end of the year.
The organiser will soon begin interior
decoration and to plant trees around the
pavilions, said Li Yinfa, a project manager
for construction on the joint and
rented pavilions.
They will hand over the pavilions to
participants to arrange their exhibitions
at the end of the year, Li said. So far, 192
countries and 50 international organisations
have confirmed participation in the
Shanghai Expo. Fifty-four of them will
build stand-alone pavilions, others will
rent a pavilion from the organiser or hold
exhibitions in joint pavilions.
