534.2.4. ISO 22000The ISO 22000 standard has been developed to facilitate the setting up offood safety management systems. It incorporates the HACCP principles aswell as traceability measures. ISO 22000 has been elaborated by theInternati<strong>on</strong>al Organizati<strong>on</strong> for Standardizati<strong>on</strong> (ISO) al<strong>on</strong>g with theC<strong>on</strong>federati<strong>on</strong> of the Food and Drink Industries of the European Uni<strong>on</strong>(CIAA), the Internati<strong>on</strong>al Hotel and Restaurant Associati<strong>on</strong> (IH&RA), theCIES Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) and the World Food SafetyOrganizati<strong>on</strong> (WFSO). Therefore, ISO 22000 harm<strong>on</strong>izes the requirementsof nati<strong>on</strong>al food safety management systems worldwide <strong>on</strong> an<strong>on</strong>-governmental, <strong>voluntary</strong> basis. Any stakeholder of the food chain (cropproducers, feed producers, food producers, processors, wholesalers, retailers)can apply for this standard. ISO 22000 can be used independently orin combinati<strong>on</strong> with other management system standards.
