People outside the prison you can send your complaint to –after you have tried to solve the complaint with prison staff1. The <strong>Prison</strong>s <strong>and</strong> Probation Ombudsman• You can write to someone called the <strong>Prison</strong>s <strong>and</strong> Probation Ombudsman if youhave already tried to solve your complaint with prison staff <strong>and</strong> you are still nothappy.• The ombudsman does not work for the prison. Their job is to look at complaintsfrom <strong>prisoners</strong> about prison life.• The ombudsman can only look at complaints that you have sent.• You must write to the ombudsman within 1 month of you getting an answerfrom prison staff about your complaint.• Tell the ombudsman as much as you can when you write to them. They will notnormally come <strong>and</strong> speak to you themselves so you need to tell them as muchas you can in your letter.• The ombudsman should usually take 12 weeks or less to look into yourcomplaint.
