The Pledge <strong>of</strong> Allegiance and District Mission Statement were recited. Theagenda was accepted as presented. There were <strong>no</strong> comments from the audience on <strong>no</strong>n-agendaitems.Presentation: Tillamook High School Transition ProgramDavid Goodell, Tiffany Beeler, Shara Robertson and Rachelle Metcalfe, Tillamook High Schoolspecial education staff, shared about the high <strong>school</strong> transition programs. There are many ways thatthe educational needs (employment/career and life/home/community) <strong>of</strong> high <strong>school</strong> students andstudents 18-21 years old are being met. The Board was invited to make a 5 th period visit to see thestudents in action!SPECIAL REPORTSSuperintendent’s Report Kindergarten Plans for 2013/14. The District plans to <strong>of</strong>fer full-day, every day for allkindergarten students next year. The administrative team has reviewed the data and believes it isin the best interest <strong>of</strong> all students to have this opportunity. State Education Budget. The District will budget at a level <strong>of</strong> $6.55 billion and expect anadditional $200,000 in PERS savings over what had been anticipated in increases. Board Visitation. Plans are being made for the <strong>board</strong> members to visit several <strong>school</strong>s in thevalley on April 15-16. Contacts have been made with principals <strong>of</strong> <strong>school</strong>s that have programsthat could benefit our students. Prior to leaving, Board members will participate in the staffinservice activities in the morning. Achievement Compact Update. The committee continues to look at the data and the requirementsfor this process. The next <strong>meeting</strong> will be held late May. A final document will be generatedfrom that <strong>meeting</strong> and will be brought to the Board for approval in June. Enrollment ( 1932 )

Numbers continue to come in asexpected. In addition to the standard monthly reports, a General Fund Revenue Analysis report wasincluded. She is working on budget scenarios for 2013/14 and will be putting together the draftbudget in the next few weeks.Board Member ReportsBoard members have been visiting <strong>school</strong>s and participating in activities with staff and students asthey are available.Association ReportsThere was <strong>no</strong> OSEA report.TEA reported that teachers are volunteering in many activities.ACTION ITEMSConsent AgendaMOTION (04/13-1) by Sally Tuttle, seconded by Stephanie Hurliman that the Board <strong>of</strong> Directorsapprove the Consent Agenda as presented including the minutes from the March 11, 2013, BoardMeeting; Personnel Actions including approving the retirement <strong>of</strong> Lori Bush, 3 rd grade, SouthPrairie, effective 6/30/13, approve hiring Kurk Davidson, 2 nd grade (temporary), South Prairie,effective 4/1/13, Sarah Dutton-Breen, TJHS Language Arts, effective 2013/2014, ShaddCunningham, Special Care EA, East, effective 4/8/13, and coaches Eric Beggs, THS Asst. Track,effective 2012/13, and Meagan Streeter, THS Varsity Volleyball, effective 2013/14; accept Gifts tothe District <strong>of</strong> baseball field tarps valued at $1335 from Werner Gourmet Meat Snacks, and JeanetteWerner, and 18 yards <strong>of</strong> sand valued at $270 from Dennis Johnson, Coastwide Ready Mix; andapprove Out <strong>of</strong> District Transfers for L. Sanchez, M. Dunn, A. Santos, and M. Wilkins. CarriedResolution 2013-07, Teacher Appreciation Week, May 6-10, 2013Teachers are required to do many activities to accommodate the needs <strong>of</strong> the public at large andstudents in particular. As a way <strong>of</strong> saying “thank you”, a resolution was developed to recognize andpay tribute to the teachers who lead our children’s education. A resolution can<strong>no</strong>t give full measureto the appreciation that needs to be expressed, but it does remind everyone to <strong>of</strong>fer appreciation as itis due. Parents and patrons were encouraged to express their appreciation to the dedicatedindividuals who teach the children <strong>of</strong> the Tillamook School District. Kris read the resolution intothe record.MOTION (04/13-2) by Stephanie Hurliman, seconded by Kris Lachenmeier that the Board <strong>of</strong>Directors adopt Resolution 2013-07, proclaiming the week <strong>of</strong> May 6 - 10, 2013, as “TeacherAppreciation Week” in the Tillamook School District. Carried.


Regular Board Meeting MinutesApril 8, 2013Page 3 <strong>of</strong> 3Appoint Budget Committee MembersPart <strong>of</strong> the legally mandated budget process in <strong>school</strong> <strong>district</strong>s is the selection <strong>of</strong> five patrons toserve with the Board members to form a Budget Committee. Shawn Reiersgaard served on theBudget Committee in Position #2 from May 2005 to January 2013, at which time he <strong>no</strong>tified theDistrict he was <strong>no</strong> longer able to serve. Dave Lindstrom has served on the Budget Committee inPosition #4 from March 2011 to the present. His current term ends on June 30, 2013, and he does<strong>no</strong>t wish to be appointed for a<strong>no</strong>ther 3-year term. The vacancies were advertised and two letters <strong>of</strong>interest were received by the District.MOTION (04/13-3) by Kris Lachenmeier, seconded by Sally Tuttle that the Board <strong>of</strong> Directorsappoint Dave Wiser to Position #2 on the Tillamook School District Budget Committee, effectiveimmediately, and appoint Nikki Brown to Position #4, effective July 1, 2013. Carried.Revise Policy IKF/IKF-AR, Graduation RequirementsState graduation requirements are changing. As they change, the District will update local policiesto reflect the changes. Oregon will <strong>no</strong> longer be using the OAKS as the required state assessment.In addition, Tillamook High School is adding a Service Learning Project to the local graduationrequirements. Policy language has been updated to reflect these changes.
