City of Bradford Metropolitan District CouncilLocal Development Framework For BradfordHousing Expansion and associated Infrastructure8.18 Bradford District has a growing population; based on ONS population projections this isanticipated to grow by 109,700 to 594,300 by 2029. In addition to this growth, theRegional Spatial Strategy for the Yorkshire and Humber region has set a minimumrequirement for the Bradford District to accommodate approximately 50,000 new homesby 2026. At present Bradford Council and its partners are currently in the process ofplanning for this future growth in terms of providing homes, jobs, healthcare, education, shops and open spaces to cater for the needs of the current and growing population. This will be achieved through the Core Strategy document and in more detail within theAllocations Development Plan Document (PDP), which forms part of the emerging LocalDevelopment Framework for Bradford.8.19 This level of future growth will, to a greater or less extent, have an impact on the naturallandscapes of the District. Further work will need to be undertaken to analyse thesensitivity and capacity of the landscape as a whole in order to accommodate all types offuture development. It will be the role of this SPD to fulfil its six strategic objectives inorder to ensure that any development(s) do not have an adverse impact on the characterof the landscape or its setting.Landscape Character Supplementary Planning DocumentOctober 2008 Page 39
