In RemembranceSTATE HIGHWAY patrolmen said Schmelzer was driving east when he came up behind another cartraveling slowly to make a turn. Schmelzer swerved his car, went left-of-center and hit the Hendricksonauto head-on. The Hendrickson auto skidded around backwards, the rear portion smashing into a tree. Thevehicle then spun around again.Pleasantville and Bremen emergency squads were at the scene.Hendrickson was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth (Hattie) Hendrickson, Rt. 5 Lancaster. The youth diedat the hospital two hours after the mishap. Besides the parents, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. JerryBoyer, Rt. 1 Lancaster, and Miss. Barbara Jean of the home; and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. BerthaHendrickson, Lancaster. He was a junior at Fairfield Union, a member of Pleasant Township EmanuelLutheran Church and played basketball, track and cross country for his school.Hendrickson, Lee, and Stickel were on their way to Lancaster with the F.U. cross country team toparticipate in a meet.Funeral services for the youth will be held Tuesday at Frank E. Smith Funeral Home; Rev. Paul O. Weimerofficiating; burial in Ziegler Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home anytime.Schmelzer, dead at the scene, is survived by a daughter, Misstie, at the home; his mother Mrs. EdnaSchmelzer, also at the home; two sisters, Mrs. Harold Uhl, Lancaster and Miss Jean Schmelzer, of thehome; and a grandmother, Mrs. Ethel Young, Lancaster.Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church with burial at St. Mary’sCemetery by Sheridan Funeral Home. Friends may call at the residence after Tuesday noon.Schmelzer’s father, Joseph, was fatally injured in an auto accident several years ago. Mr. and Mrs. HubertSchmelzer, 312 Green field St., Lancaster, had a very personal implication in the double fatality. TheSchmelzer man killed was Mr. Schmelzer’s nephew, while the Hendrickson youth was a nephew of Mrs.Schmelzer. Sydney Waddington willconduct funeral sevices Friday at 10:30 a. m. in St. John’s Episcopal Church.Burial will be made in Forest Rose Cemetery.Accident Occurs West of AmandaA 15-year old Lancaster High School Sophomore accidentally ran into the path of an automobile on U.S.Rt. 22 late yesterday afternoon, state highway patrolmen reported.The youth, Jeffery Moore, of 333 Eagle Ave., reported officers, died today at 7:20 a.m. in UniversityHospital, Columbus.Highway patrolmen who are still investigating the accident, reported that the driver of the car, MahlenGraybill, 35 of Mashbern, Pa., was not held.The accident occurred 3.9 miles west of Amanda on the federal highway, at about 5:15 p.m. yesterday.Officers reported that the youth had alighted from a westbound auto in which he was hitchhiking to visitfriends and ran in front of the car, towards the Justice Store, when he was struck by the westbound Graybillvehicle.A Patterson ambulance from Leesburg, O., happened to be passing the scene and immediately took youngMoore to Lancaster-Fairfield Hospital.From the hospital, Moore was transferred to University Hospital by Sheridan ambulance.The youth underwent brain surgery last night, but died this morning.35
