170 A b u n d a n t L i v i n g1. He is clothed with faithfulness. “Righteousness willbe his belt and faithfulness the sash around his waist”(Isaiah 11:5). This is our reminder that faithfulness is part ofHis very being.2. He is faithful to exceed His promises. “Let us holdunswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promisedis faithful” (Hebrews 10:23). The Word of God is filled withpromises, and these promises are ours. Peter says that by Hisglory and goodness “he has given us his very great and preciouspromises” (2 Peter 1:4). If God has promised you something, youcan claim His promise by faith and prayer, for He is faithful.3. God is faithful to forgive. We have this assurance in1 John 1:9: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just andwill forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”His forgiveness is not based on what we feel, but on our faiththat He will do what He has promised.4. God is faithful in calling us. His first call to us is forsalvation, and then He calls us to serve Him, as He calledPeter by the Sea of Galilee. He calls the backslider to returnto Him (see Jeremiah 3:12, 22). He calls us to reveal His planand will for us, as He did to Samuel (1 Samuel 3:10–11). Hecalls us to be sanctified and holy (1 Corinthians 1:2). And oneday He will call us to meet Him in the air, according to Hispromise (1 Thessalonians 4:13–17). We have this promise in1 Thessalonians 5:24: “The one who calls you is faithful andhe will do it.” Has He called you to do a special work for Him?You can trust in His faithfulness to do what He has promised.We may well say with the prophet, “Because of the Lord’sgreat love we are not consumed, for his compassions neverfail.
