Sagebrush Steppe Plants 44 Grasses Sage-grouse depend on grass to provide cover from predators primarily during the nesting and broodrearing periods. Some grasses based on their structure, provide increased visual obstruction and therefore provide more effective habitat for sage-grouse hens and nests. Although many different grass species occur in sage-grouse habitat, the following is a list of a few common grasses that can provide cover for sage-grouse.
