K I N G S P O R T C I T Y S C H O O : S T U D E N T H A N D B O O KLEAVING SCHOOL GROUNDSLOCKERSWe believe cell phones can be powerful learning tool in the classroom when usedappropriately. However, we also know that cell phones and other electronic devicescan serve as a serious disruption when used for non-academic reasons. High schoolstudents are not permitted to use cell phones during or between classes unless it is foracademic purposes, under direct supervision of a classroom teacher. <strong>Student</strong>s mayhave access to cell phones during their designated lunch times. Failure to comply withthis rule will result in confiscation of the cell phone. See Confiscation of Items below.<strong>Student</strong>s must remain on school grounds during the entire school day. Take note, students arenot allowed to sign-out of school for the purposes of going to lunch. All students who leaveschool grounds without permission will be subject to disciplinary action.High School students shall be subject to the following consequences for leaving school groundswithout permission: First Offense: 1 day ISS 11 Second Offense: 2 days ISS Third Offense: 3 days ISS Chronic Offenses: 3 days ISS and referral to Cora Cox AcademyLockers are school property and may be inspected by school authorities. Lockers may beperiodically checked by the police and canine corps. High school students wishing to uselockers may sign up in the front office.SCHOOL-SPONSORED ACTIVITIESSchool sponsored activities include field trips, social activities, conventions, workshops,academic competitions, and any other related functions recognized by the school that are heldon or off the campus. <strong>Student</strong>s who participate or attend are representatives of their individualschools, as well as <strong>Kingsport</strong> <strong>City</strong> <strong>Schools</strong> in general, and will conduct themselves as such.<strong>Student</strong>s who violate regulations at these activities are subject to disciplinary action as definedin the <strong>Student</strong> Code of Conduct. If the school provides transportation to an activity, the studentmust return via the school transportation or may only be released or signed out with prior writtenapproval from a parent/ guardian or adult immediate family member in person. During anassigned Out-of-School Suspension (OSS), expulsion, or while attending alternative school,students may not attend or participate in any school sponsored activity, including prom andgraduation. The school medication policy applies to medication use during school-sponsoredactivities.Parents or legal guardians shall be notified concerning clubs and organizations available tostudents attending the school. A full listing of these clubs and organizations can be found atwww.k12k.com. The list shall include:The names of the clubs and organizations, including any abbreviations or acronymsThe mission and purpose of the clubs and organizationsAll financial requirements associated with membership in the club or organization11In-School Suspension49
