Isaiah Translationcoming down of his arm, with the indignation of his anger, and with the flame of adevouring fire, with scattering, and tempest, and hailstones.31 For through the voice of the LORD shall the Assyrian be beaten down, who struckwith a rod.32 And in every place where the grounded staff shall pass, which the LORD shall layon him, it shall be with tabrets and harps: and in battles of shaking will he fight with it.33 For Tophet is ordained of old; yes, it is prepared for the king; he has made it deepand large: its pile is fire and much wood; the breath of the LORD, like a stream ofbrimstone, kindles it.Isaiah 311. Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help; and hope in horses, and trust inchariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; butthey look not to the Holy One of Israel, nor seek the LORD!2 Yet he also is wise, and will bring evil, and will not call back his words: but will ariseagainst the house of the evildoers, and against the help of those who work iniquity.3 Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses flesh, and not spirit. Whenthe LORD shall stretch out his hand, both he who helps shall fall, and he who is helpedshall fall down, and they all shall fail together.4 For thus has the LORD spoken to me, as the lion and the young lion roaring on hisprey, when a multitude of shepherds are called forth against him, he will not be afraidof their voice, nor abase himself for the noise of them: so shall the LORD of hostscome down to fight for mount Zion and its hill.5 As birds flying, so will the LORD of hosts defend Jerusalem; in defending he willalso deliver it; and in passing over he will preserve it.6. Turn to him from whom the children of Israel have deeply revolted.7 For in that day every man shall cast away his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which your own hands have made to you for a sin.8 Then shall the Assyrian fall with the sword, not of a mighty man; and the sword, notof a mean man, shall devour him: but he shall flee from the sword, and his young menshall be enslaved.9 And he shall pass over to his strong hold for fear, and his princes shall be afraid ofthe ensign, says the LORD, whose fire is in Zion, and his furnace in Jerusalem.Isaiah 321. Behold, a king should reign in righteousness, and princes ought to rule in justly.2 Then a man would be as a hiding place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest;as rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a mighty rock within a weary land.3 And the eyes of those who see would not be dim, and the ears of those who hearwould listen.4 The heart also of the rash would understand knowledge, and the tongue of thestammerers would be ready to speak plainly.5 The vile person would be no more called liberal, nor the churl said to be bountiful.6 For the vile person will speak villainy, and his heart will work iniquity, to practicehttp://www.ao.net/~fmoeller/isatran.htm (32 of 68)2006-08-01 11:50:56
