First GreenLight endorser in Poland with Ensto PIR –RESIDENTIAL COMMUNITY IN WARSAWcaseDuring the renovation of alarge residential buildingin Warsaw the lighting systemsof staircases and corridorswere modernized as partof energy-saving activities.Ensto PIR, a sensor-controlledlighting system was chosen. The 13-storey block of flats was equippedwith a traditional lighting system. The automaticstaircase lighting system run byswitch buttons placed in several points oneach floor turned on the light in the wholebuilding and turned it off after 3 minutes.Luminaries in garages, cellars etc. (whereseparate switch buttons were) remained in“on” position until switched off separately.Ensto PIR luminaries do not require replacingthe fluorescent lamps often (2 yearsguarantee). In the above case all the switchbuttons were eliminated. There were 79 incandescent luminaries (40W) and the total power amounted to 3,16kW in the building. The estimated averagetime of lighting – 9h per day - resulted inannual energy consumption of 10238 kWh.The cost amounted to 855 euros per year. All the maintenance costs for example forthe replacement of burnt bulbs added.GreenLight is a voluntary program whichencourages non-residential electricityconsumers to install energy-efficientlighting technologies in their facilities. The main target of the program is toreduce the indoor and outdoor lightingenergy consumption throughout Europe, thus reducing polluting emissions andlimiting the global warming. TheGreenLight program was launched inFebruary 2000.After the analysis of power and intensity ofillumination, the Ensto PIR system wasinstalled. The number of luminariesdecreased to 66 (18W) with total power of1,2 kW and an estimated time of the dailyconsumption of the light up to 2 h per day(as the light was “on” only in case of movement). The annual energy consumptiondecreased to 855 kWh and approximateenergy costs to 73 euros annually. It wasestimated that the implementation ofEnsto PIR luminaries resulted in 90 %savings on energy consumption andmaintenance per year. With the help of the PIR calculator, you caneasily find out how much you could save bychanging your button-controlled lighting toEnsto PIR luminaires.
