This mineral, thoughrather rare than otherwise, is little used in jewellery.It appears that the ancients did not know it, or atleast we are in ignorance of what name they may havegiven it.XXX.CHRYSOLITE.THE ancients gave the name of chrysolite to thetopaz, <strong>and</strong> the name suited it, coming from the GreekX/wo-oAt.005, which signifies " golden stone."In modern times this name has, instead, been given toa yellowish-green stone, which is often confounded withthe cymophane <strong>and</strong> the peridot, but from which, nevertheless,it differs not a little.
