Hisname was Nathaniel Bacon, son of Thomas Bacon,,of Friston Hall, Suffolk, a kinsman of the greatLord Bacon.i His mot<strong>her</strong> was daughter of a Suffolkknight, Sir Robert Brooke. He had studiedlaw at Gray's Inn, <strong>and</strong> after extensive travel onthe continent of Europe had come to <strong>Virginia</strong>with his young wife shortly before the beginningof these Indian troubles. His fat<strong>her</strong>'s cousin,Nathaniel Bacon, ofKing's Creek, who had dweltin the colony since about 1650, was a man of largewealth <strong>and</strong> influence. The abilities <strong>and</strong> characterof the young Nathaniel were rated so high that healready had a seat in the council.
