six weeks, eh, six months’ (one). ‘Like probably, like,dinner-time, about sixish… during the day some of themmight be at school or work so at night would probably bebetter’ (three). The ease of accessibility was the reasonthe teenagers gave for the health centre being the mostpopular location: ‘At my own doctor’s, probably, ’causethat’s more closer for me to get to’ and ‘Well, like, if Ididn’t have anybody to bring me here,my doctors is onlyat ***, I could just, like, it is just five minutes up the road,I could walk to them’ (three). As the majority of maternitycare is within the community setting, this finding was notsurprising. Most teenagers would have attended a ‘Young mumsclub’, emphasising the importance of peer group support:‘Just like, people your own age like, they are in the samesituation as you… I was in an antenatal class with awoman, she was 31 and she’d IVF treatment to havea wain… I’d be sitting beside her’ (one). ‘You can, like, speak to other people your own age and see how theyfeel about what has happened, em, and like, how theyare going to deal with it afterwards’ (four). Being part ofa ‘Young mums’ club’ mattered to vulnerable girls whooften felt labelled as ‘teenagers’. Opinions varied on theappropriate number of classes they wanted to attend. It was apparent that most would attend classes afteran antenatal clinic and, importantly, most wanted to beaccompanied by either their partner or mother.64
