Onion; Herbalists believe the high content of sulphur in onions, opens the pores of the scalp
and heals and repairs any damaged follicles. The onion also acts to kill any bacteria and
cleans away any clogged secretions of sebum and flaky skin, so making new hair growth
much more easier and possible.
Method; Cut an ordinary sized cooking onion in half and rub the cut end to the whole of the
scalp area for 10-15 minutes or until you can see the scalp become red-looking in appearance.
Leave on the hair for a further 30 minutes before shampooing and rinsing off.
Red Pepper – Another very effective treatment. Not to be confused with the red pepper
vegetable, this is capsicum. It works by irritating the skin and opening the pores. By doing
this it also encourages the release of histamines and accelerates cell division and blood
circulation, and therefore promotes hair re-growth.
Method; Red pepper is mixed with a good quality Olive Oil and applied to the scalp. At first
use small amounts of pepper and gradually increase the amount you use to get the right mix
of oil and pepper that you are comfortable with. Massage the mix into your scalp for a
minimum of 5 minutes, longer preferably. Do not leave this mixture on your head after the
scalp massage; shampoo and rinse off completely straight away to avoid excessive scalp
irritation.
Safflower Oil – If you are looking for this in a health shop it sometimes goes by its medical
term of Carthamus Tinctorious. Eastern health practitioners use this safflower oil to massage
the scalp with. It has the ability to dilate the blood vessels, so allowing a stronger blood flow,
which in turn means a greater delivery of essential nutrients the hair follicles.
Method; You will buy this oil ready to use. Massage into the scalp, again for a minimum of 5
minutes. The general rule is that the longer you massage the scalp the more benefit you will
get, so 5 minutes is the bare minimum and 15 minutes is the target. Once finished, simply
shampoo and rinse the normal way.
Internal Home Remedies
I have a total of six internal remedies that I use on a very regular basis; some in tablet form
the others are drinks. The effects and benefits you will gain from taking these are amazing.
Most of them can be bought in good Health shops, if not then search for them on the net
where they are freely available and possibly priced cheaper too.
Saw Palmetto - this is probably the best-known, most effective herbal drink or tablet for
anyone suffering from balding or thinning hair. It is very well tested and medically approved.
Even the big commercial companies now use this simple herb as the mainstay of many male
treatments. It is probably more associated with men than with women.
It effectively stops excessive amounts of DHT forming and causing problems to the prostate
gland and the hair follicle itself. By doing this it slows down any hair loss and actively
encourages new hair growth.
