At the end of each chapter are activities that give the reader an opportunity to apply the theories and develop skills needed to forecast successfully. The activities focus on the processes used in forecasting, encouraging experimentation with the conceptual ideas. Included in this book are the voices from inside the fashion business, professionals, who are skilled at forecasting, telling their own stories. Interviews with fashion professionals describing their viewpoints about fashion forecasting add industry insiders’ real-life experiences to the book. My forecasting process involves keeping a pulse on fashion trends, being intellectually curious about why changes occur, and spotting newness in the world around me by scanning art, politics, culture, technology, media, marketing, and more for the latest developments. After gathering and analyzing repetitive looks and styles from all around the globe, I develop forecasting presentations, prepare engaging and carefully crafted narratives, and deliver the information to audiences in visually exciting formats using innovative textiles, cohesive color palettes, modern silhouette photos and illustrations, and stylish layouts. Now, I also teach what I know to fashion design and merchandising college students, preparing them for exciting, challenging, and truly fantastic careers in fashion.
