Işık, “Herme, sütunbiçiminde olan, kolları bacakları olmayan, sadece baş taşıyan bir heykel türüdür.Çok rastlanan bir tür değil. Yaptığımız araştırmalarda ne dünya müzelerinde nede Türkiye’de eşine rastlamadık. Roma Dönemi eseri olduğunu düşünüyoruz” dedi.Unprecedented in the worldThe bronze ‘Herma’ (a head sculpture of the god Hermes surmounting a squarepillar) statue uncovered last summer at the Patara ancient city excavations conductedin the Kaş district of the Antalya province, under the leadership of Prof. Dr.Havva İşkan Işık, Member of the Department of Archaeology of Akdeniz University’sFaculty of Arts and Letters, was introduced to the members of the media bythe Ministry of Culture and Tourism.Speaking at the meeting, Prof. Dr.Işık declared that the 95.5 cm high and 15.5 cmwide bronze Herma statue was restored at the Antalya Museum. Işık stated: “Hermais a sculpture type with only a head on top of a column without arms and legs.It is a rather rare type of statue. Our research indicated that this type of statue wasneither seen in Turkish nor in other world museums. We think that it is an artefactof the Roman Period.”72
