<strong>Peer</strong> <strong>Review</strong> <strong>of</strong> LLWR Response to S9R2LLWR_2008-8-2Version 1is a Visiting Pr<strong>of</strong>essor at the Industrial Ecology Research Centre, at theUniversity <strong>of</strong> Liverpool. He has over 16 years experience at senior levelin industry and as a consultant, largely concerned with the assessment andmanagement <strong>of</strong> environmental issues and the interactions betweenbusiness needs, scientific issues and understanding, legislation andregulatory policy, public and political expectations.196. He is an invited independent member <strong>of</strong> the National Dose AssessmentWorking Group, concerned with methodologies for assessing doses to thepublic from radioactivity in the environment. He acts as peer reviewer formany scientific journals in the fields <strong>of</strong> radiation protection, dosimetry,radioecology and occupational medicine197. His experience includes:Direction <strong>of</strong> industrially focused R&D in the environmental and lifesciences.All aspects <strong>of</strong> practical health physics, including radioactivitymeasurement, dose assessment, environmental monitoring,occupational exposure control, discharge assessment and emergencypreparedness.Interpretation <strong>of</strong> occupational and environmental epidemiologicaldata. Preparing environmental assessments and working withenvironmental legislation and regulators to negotiate authorisationsand consents.Development <strong>of</strong> environmental policy and related environmentalmanagement systems, and conducting environmental liabilityreviews in relation to due diligence.Legally-related scientific work, both as scientific advisor and anexpert witness, in both civil and criminal proceedings, together withjudicial review and public inquiry work concerned withenvironmental impact issues.Participation in BPEO, MADA and related environmental decisionmakingprocesses, involving stakeholder dialogue and concernsabout environmental performance and safety.Acting as an expert for the FCO in relation to actions against the UKGovernment in respect <strong>of</strong> Sellafield’s discharges to the Irish Sea.Contributing to the development <strong>of</strong> integrated waste strategies fornuclear sites.TerraSalus Limited A-5 2 September 2008
