U N I V E R S I T Y O F C O LO R A D O F O U N DAT I O NRod and Sally Lorimer:Lending a Helping HandIn <strong>the</strong>ir final year at CU-Boulder, Rodric and Sally Lorimer had alot on <strong>the</strong>ir plates. They had just been married, <strong>the</strong>y were working toput <strong>the</strong>mselves through college, and <strong>the</strong>y were balancing <strong>the</strong> rigors <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong>ir challenging academic curriculums. As close as <strong>the</strong>y were to <strong>the</strong> finishline, Rod began to wonder if he’d be able to graduate on time.In his last semester, Rod received a scholarship that made all <strong>the</strong> difference.By lifting some <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> financial strain, <strong>the</strong> scholarship enabled himto graduate with <strong>the</strong> class <strong>of</strong> ’60 with a dual degree in mechanical engineeringand business.“Knowing that someone was <strong>the</strong>re to help me see it through allowed meto complete my education,” said Rod. “I wanted to give that back.”Following Rod’s successful career at Proctor & Gamble and Clorox, <strong>the</strong>Lorimers opted to establish a charitable remainder trust using <strong>the</strong>irClorox stock holdings. The gift provides <strong>the</strong> Lorimers with an incomethroughout <strong>the</strong>ir lives, after which it will provide a permanent, endowedscholarship to engineering students at CU-Boulder.Although Rod and Sally now live in California, <strong>the</strong>ir connection toBoulder is steadfast. “My CU education laid <strong>the</strong> foundation for mypr<strong>of</strong>essional career,” noted Rod. “Sally and I hope this scholarship willpave <strong>the</strong> way for success among future CU engineering students whoneed a helping hand.”“Sometimes in engineeringit gets so rough that youjust want to cry. But havingmy scholarship keeps memotivated. It’s always in <strong>the</strong>back <strong>of</strong> my mind that myscholarship donors believein me and that keeps megoing.
